About the role

As a Talent Manager within bp’s Executive Development and Talent Management team, the role leads talent management for an allocated entity, providing a clear and consistent connection between business priorities and the talent decisions needed to support them.

The focus is on developing the entity talent agenda, bringing together business context, organisational insight and talent data to advise succession, development and movement of critical talent. With a particular focus on Group Leader and critical Level E roles, the role strengthens succession and the deeper talent pipeline while supporting the identification and development of bp’s highest-potential talent.

Success in this role requires a combination of critical thinking and strong delivery, bringing clarity to challenging talent questions and turning insight into focused decisions and action.

What you will be responsible for

The role owns the talent rhythm for an allocated entity, connecting talent strategy, succession, development and talent movement to strengthen capability and bench strength over time.

  • People tables and talent cadence: Own the end-to-end people table process and annual talent rhythm, bringing together the insights needed for effective discussions and ensuring decisions, talent moves and development actions are followed through.
  • Succession and talent pipelines: Maintain succession plans for Group Leader and critical Level E roles, identifying gaps, feeder roles and development priorities while strengthening high-potential and deeper talent pipelines.
  • Talent moves and development: Support slates, chessboards and talent moves, connecting role requirements with succession plans and career pathways while identifying appropriate development opportunities.
  • Talent insight: Use succession, mobility, potential, skills, performance and attrition data to identify risks, inform talent priorities and recommend practical action.
  • Senior leadership and enterprise engagement: Support talent discussions and updates for senior forums, including the bp Leadership Team, People & Culture Leadership Team and Board-level audiences, while connecting entity priorities with broader Executive Development and Talent Management activity.
  • Development partners and data: Work with external leadership development providers and internal bp faculty, while maintaining accurate talent information and handling sensitive individual and organisational information with care and discretion.

What you will bring

Strong talent management judgement is essential, alongside the ability to understand wider organisational, capability and pipeline implications. The role requires confidence working with nuanced information, influencing senior audiences and managing multiple priorities and dependencies.

  • Significant experience in talent management, succession, leadership development, workforce or organisation planning within a large organisation, with a strong understanding of critical roles, talent assessment, development and movement.
  • Experience working with senior business and People & Culture leaders, including supporting people tables, succession reviews, talent forums or similar decision-making processes.
  • Strong data and analytical capability, using talent and organisational information to identify risks and shape priorities.
  • Strong programme and project leadership, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities, dependencies and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to turn wide-ranging information into clear recommendations for senior audiences.
  • Experience working across different areas of a business and with external leadership or development providers, influencing outcomes without relying on direct authority.
  • Strong discretion and judgement when handling sensitive talent and organisational information.
