Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY
We are seeking a Tax Accountant to support the U.S.
tax function across property and corporate entities. This role is based in
Bengaluru, India.
The Tax Accountant supports the U.S. tax function across
property and corporate entities, with responsibility for the preparation of tax
workpapers, reconciliations, draft filings, compliance schedules and related
supporting documentation for onshore review. The role works closely with the
US-based Tax team and internal stakeholders across Accounting, FP&A, Asset
Management, Operations and other functions to support timely and accurate
compliance with federal, state and local tax requirements.
The Tax Accountant performs assigned tax compliance, tax
accounting and reporting activities within established procedures and review
standards, maintains accurate and well-supported workpapers, and proactively
identifies deadlines, exceptions and data-quality issues requiring escalation.
The role also supports tax audits, notices, REIT compliance, internal controls
and process-improvement initiatives across the Tax function.
Primary Role – Managed Portfolio Accounting and Reporting
- Prepare
federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns, supporting
workpapers, extensions, estimated tax calculations and payment schedules
for onshore review.
- Support
ad valorem tax compliance by maintaining tax calendars and trackers,
assembling payment support, coordinating required property data and
managing consultant deliverables in accordance with established
procedures.
- Prepare
sales, use, privilege and other indirect tax filings and reconciliations,
investigate differences and submit complete and accurate deliverables for
onshore review.
- Prepare
schedules and supporting workpapers related to REIT qualification,
earnings and profits, tax accounting and other applicable tax
requirements.
- Apply
established US GAAP and tax procedures in preparing book-to-tax
reconciliations, tax return workpapers and financial-reporting support,
including ASC 740-related schedules.
- Maintain
federal, state and local tax calendars, compliance trackers and filing
schedules, proactively identifying upcoming deadlines, missing inputs and
exceptions requiring escalation.
- Maintain
entity-level tax data, jurisdictional registrations, renewals and
licensing inventories, and prepare supporting documentation for required
onshore action.
- Prepare
tax analyses, account reconciliations and audit-support workpapers;
investigate discrepancies, document findings and escalate matters
requiring judgment or technical interpretation.
- Draft
responses and supporting documentation for tax notices, examinations and
audits for onshore review, and communicate externally only when
specifically authorized.
- Perform
assigned Sarbanes-Oxley controls and other tax-control activities,
maintaining complete supporting evidence and adherence to departmental
policies and procedures.
- Collaborate
with US-based Tax, Accounting, FP&A and other internal teams to obtain
complete and accurate information required for tax compliance, reporting
and analysis.
- Maintain
organized workpapers, clear audit trails, appropriate version control and
confidentiality in accordance with company standards and established
review requirements.
- Identify
opportunities to improve tax workflows, standardize recurring processes
and reduce manual effort, and support process-improvement and automation
initiatives in coordination with onshore leadership.
- Work
independently within established procedures and review requirements while
proactively escalating issues, exceptions and matters requiring judgment.
- Work
from the Bengaluru office under the hybrid working model, with working
hours aligned to provide meaningful daily overlap with US business hours;
flexibility is expected during tax filing periods, quarter-end and
year-end reporting cycles, and other peak periods.

other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s
degree in accounting or finance is required.
- Chartered
Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is
preferred.
- Minimum
of 10 years of related professional accounting experience preferred.
- Five
or more years in a supervisory role managing a team of five or more is
preferred.
- Big
Four accounting firm experience preferred; real estate or student housing
experience is an advantage.
- Strong
working knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 740, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control
environments.
- Working
knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax concepts; exposure to REIT and
Subchapter K taxation is preferred.
- Experience
with Oracle Fusion is preferred.
- Experience
with tax software (tax return preparation, fixed asset accounting, tax
research software) preferred.
- Proficient
in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel, Word and
PowerPoint.
- Strong
organizational, interpersonal, analytical, leadership and presentation
skills.
- Ability
to handle multiple high-priority projects with keen attention to detail.
- Strong
problem-solving and data analysis skills, with the ability to assimilate
new information, understand complex topics and arrive at sound analysis
and judgement.
- Ability
to work independently while logically and strategically resolving
accounting issues in adherence with US GAAP.
- Demonstrates
a positive attitude and maintains a high level of professionalism when
working with onshore stakeholders and senior leadership across time zones.
