GENERAL OVERVIEW
The Tax & Compliance Accountant supports tax and corporate compliance across the Company's multiple entities and states, including coordination with third-party income tax and sales tax providers, tax reconciliations, government-contract reporting, and registrations and licenses that keep each entity in good standing. This role maintains the compliance calendar, prepares tax-related accounting entries, responds to routine notices and information requests, and partners with outside filers, state agencies, and internal stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Core duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Coordinate with the third-party income tax filer, preparing deliverables to ensure returns are filed accurately and on time
- Process income tax payments
- Support the sales tax compliance relationship and monitor sales tax accounts across multiple states and entities
- Prepare tax-related reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries as part of monthly close.
- Maintain and submit required state reporting to ensure compliance with government contracts
- Maintain corporate registrations, including state registrations, business licenses, and tax registrations
- Maintain the compliance calendar covering filing deadlines, renewals, and registrations across all jurisdictions
- Respond to state notices and support tax audits and information requests
- Monitor nexus and tax law changes as we enter new states and add entities, and register where required
- Support improvements to and automation of compliance processes as the state and entity footprint grows
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· 3+ years of experience in multi-state tax compliance, corporate compliance, or a similar role
· Experience working across a multi-entity, multi-state organizational structure
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Proficient in MS Excel
· Experience with ERP software, NetSuite preferred
· Experience with Sales Tax software, Vertex preferred
· Exceptional time management, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
· Can work independently and without supervision when required
· Must be able to work on-site 3 days per week in our Lakeland, FL office
