About the Role

Join the litigation team of a large, multi-office law firm as a mid-level tax controversy associate. You will work alongside an experienced tax litigator and collaborate with attorneys handling complex litigation matters.

What You'll Do

  • Support civil and criminal tax litigation, white-collar defense, and related commercial disputes.

  • Handle IRS administrative matters, including audits, appeals, and summons enforcement.

  • Litigate tax controversy cases in Tax Court, federal district court, and the Court of Federal Claims.

  • Research and draft briefs, memoranda, and other legal work product.

  • Advise clients on tax procedure, reporting and disclosure obligations, and penalty avoidance or abatement strategies.

  • Collaborate with attorneys on matters involving tax issues, including white-collar defense and professional malpractice cases.

What We're Looking For

  • Three to five years of tax controversy experience in a law firm, Tax Court clerkship, federal tax agency, or comparable role.

  • A JD and an LLM in Taxation, or current enrollment in a Tax LLM program with completion by Fall 2028.

  • Active bar admission, or completion of the admission process, in the state where you will work: New York, Pennsylvania, or Washington, DC.

  • Tax controversy or litigation experience in addition to transactional tax work; experience with both civil and criminal matters is beneficial.

  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with familiarity using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and Microsoft Office.

  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary is $230,000 to $250,000 annually. Bonus eligibility begins at 1,900 billable hours, with incremental bonuses above that threshold and additional compensation tied to fees billed and collected. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Hybrid, with at least three days per week in the office. The primary location is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. New York, New York, and Washington, DC, are also available.
