About the Role

Join the litigation practice of an established law firm as a mid-level tax controversy associate. You will work alongside an experienced tax litigator and help grow the practice across civil and criminal tax matters.

What You'll Do

  • Support civil and criminal tax litigation, white-collar defense, and complex commercial disputes.

  • Handle IRS audits, appeals, administrative proceedings, and summons enforcement matters.

  • Litigate tax controversy cases in Tax Court, federal district court, and the Court of Federal Claims.

  • Research and draft briefs, memoranda, and other written work product.

  • Advise clients on tax procedures, reporting and disclosure requirements, and penalty avoidance or abatement strategies.

  • Collaborate with litigation colleagues on matters involving tax issues, including white-collar defense and accounting or legal malpractice cases.

What We're Looking For

  • Three to five years of tax controversy experience as a law firm associate, judicial clerk, or attorney in a government tax practice.

  • A JD and an LLM in Taxation, or current enrollment in a Tax LLM program with completion by Fall 2028.

  • Active bar admission, or a wave-in process in progress, in the state where you will work: New York, Pennsylvania, or Washington, DC.

  • Experience in tax controversy or litigation, in addition to any transactional tax work; exposure to both civil and criminal tax matters is beneficial.

  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with familiarity using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and Microsoft Office.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary is $230,000 to $250,000 annually. Bonus eligibility begins at 1,900 billable hours, with incremental bonuses for additional hours and a percentage of fees billed and collected above a stated threshold. Visa sponsorship is not available; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
