The opportunity of Tax Senior
If you have experience in personal tax and are ready to take greater ownership of your own client portfolio, this is an opportunity to develop your career within a growing, progressive accountancy firm.
At Ballards, you’ll join our Business Services Tax team and manage a varied portfolio of personal tax clients, including landlords, sole traders, GP partners and other medical-sector clients. You’ll take ownership of personal tax compliance from end to end, build trusted relationships with your clients and continue developing your technical expertise alongside an experienced and supportive team.
What you’ll do as Tax Senior:
- Manage your own portfolio of personal tax clients and take ownership of day-to-day client relationships.
- Prepare and peer review self-assessment tax returns, associated accounts, claims and supporting computations.
- Prepare capital gains tax returns and quarterly Making Tax Digital (MTD) returns.
- Work directly with clients to obtain information, resolve queries and keep their tax affairs on track.
- Support GP and medical-sector clients, including the preparation of Type 1 and Type 2 superannuation certificates.
- Deal with HMRC enquiries, penalty notices and routine correspondence.
- Support clients with day-to-day tax queries.
- Work alongside the wider Business Services team and support tax planning and advisory work where appropriate.
- Share your knowledge and support more junior colleagues as your experience develops.
Who we’re looking for as Tax Senior:
You’ll already have experience in personal tax within accountancy practice and be comfortable taking responsibility for client compliance work.
You may be ATT qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience, qualification status isn’t the only thing we’ll consider. We’re equally interested in your practical experience, technical grounding and appetite to continue developing.
You’ll bring strong attention to detail, good organisation and the confidence to communicate directly with clients and manage competing deadlines. Experience with medical-sector clients, capital gains tax returns or Digita would be useful, but isn’t essential.
What you’ll get as Tax Senior:
- Ownership of a varied personal tax portfolio.
- Exposure to an interesting client base across a range of sectors.
- The opportunity to broaden your experience beyond compliance and develop greater exposure to tax planning and advisory work.
- Ongoing technical and professional development.
- A collaborative environment where you can learn from experienced colleagues and contribute your own ideas.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- A growing firm with genuine opportunities to develop your career.
