Show job description
Our Private Client Tax team are looking for a Senior Manager to join their exciting and growing department. You will be required to drive the delivery of personal tax advisory work, including writing reports and leading discussions with prospective and existing clients. You will also be required to oversee a team of junior staff who are responsible for day-to-day delivery of private client services across a diverse portfolio of individual clients.

This is a key role within our West End office, where you will be client facing and required to deal credibly and professionally with high net-worth clients and other professional advisors. As such, excellent technical skills are crucial; equally crucial will be your ability to impart complex tax technical information to non-experts.

We are looking for someone to actively manage the delivery of the private client offering for the team, including making suggestions for improving internal processes and efficiencies. This will include mentoring the team to develop their soft skills and providing technical training periodically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to partners and directors in the effective running of the team and in winning new work.
  • Managing a portfolio, consisting of a mix of clients with multiple sources of earned and investment income.
  • Driving the delivery of technical advisory work on the portfolio.
  • Dealing with one off advisory and compliance assignments.
  • A key point of contact for the client.
  • Dealing with partnerships and high net worth individuals.
  • Dealing with a wide range of capital gains tax issues.
  • Overseeing the UK tax return filling process for a broad variety of clients.
  • Monitoring team progress against targets.
  • Providing feedback and giving input into staff appraisals, as well as direct responsibility for appraising staff.
  • Monitor progress and encourage the personal development of all team members.
  • Ability to produce written work to a high standard.
  • Make suggestions and implement changes in order to improve efficiency within the team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • CTA qualified (or equivalent) with significant experience in private client tax.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK private client tax, including personal tax planning, anti-avoidance legislation and inheritance tax matters.
  • Experience advising high net worth individuals, business owners, trusts and estates.
  • Proven ability to deliver both compliance and advisory services, including report writing and bespoke tax planning projects.
  • Experience dealing directly with HMRC on complex enquiries, investigations, settlements and negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of Self-Assessment, tax computations and broader private client tax compliance.
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships, providing commercially focused and practical advice.
  • Previous experience managing, coaching and reviewing the work of junior team members.
  • Demonstrable business development skills, including identifying opportunities, winning work and generating referrals across service lines.
  • Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills, with experience managing deadlines, WIP and billing responsibilities.
