Your Role & Impact

As a Staff Accountant in the Tax Department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional service to our clients while developing your technical tax and accounting expertise. Working closely with seniors, supervisors, managers, and shareholders, you will support tax compliance engagements, assist with client relationships, and contribute to the overall success of the firm through quality work, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.

Technical Support & Client Relations

  • Gather, organize, and analyze client financial information required for tax return preparation.
  • Communicate professionally with clients via email, phone, and meetings to request documents, clarify information, and provide status updates.
  • Assist with client onboarding by collecting necessary tax and financial documentation and establishing engagement files.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic workpapers in accordance with firm standards.
  • Ensure all client information is handled confidentially and securely.
  • Support senior team members with tax research, client inquiries, and special projects as assigned.
  • Build strong client relationships by providing responsive, professional, and timely service.

Project Management & Team Collaboration

  • Manage assigned tax return engagements and complete work in a timely and organized manner.
  • Track project deadlines and proactively communicate progress, questions, or concerns to supervisors and managers.
  • Attend and actively participate in department meetings, training programs, and firm initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members across service lines to ensure efficient completion of client engagements.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability during busy season while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Seek feedback from senior team members and apply recommendations to continuously improve performance and technical knowledge.

Preparation, Compliance, & Reporting

  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and nonprofit tax returns with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local tax filings in accordance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist with quarterly estimated tax calculations, extension filings, and year-end tax planning projects.
  • Prepare personal property tax returns and other compliance-related filings as required.
  • Analyze financial statements, trial balances, and supporting schedules to identify issues and ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Prepare account reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and supporting workpapers when necessary.
  • Perform tax research and document findings to support tax positions and client recommendations.
  • Assist with IRS and state tax notice responses and related correspondence.
  • Develop proficiency in firm-approved tax software, workflow systems, and document management tools.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with tax legislation, regulations, and industry trends.

Qualifications & Skills

Certifications: CPA License preferred or actively pursuing CPA certification with the intent to obtain licensure.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.

Technical/Industry-Specific Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and the ability to learn and utilize firm software, including Deltek, GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx Tax/Axcess, CaseWare, and other tax and workflow management systems.

Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, effective time management, organizational abilities, and the capability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Experience: This is an entry-level position. Previous internship experience in public accounting, tax preparation, or related accounting experience is preferred but not required. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of accounting principles and taxation concepts through academic coursework or practical experience.
