Your Opportunity
We have an immediate opening for an Atmospheric Sciences Team Lead within our Environmental Services team. This role will lead mentorship and team growth while supporting the delivery of complex atmospheric projects across Atlantic Canada and beyond. The position can be based in any of our offices across Atlantic Canada (Dartmouth, NS; Fredericton, NB; Moncton, NB; Charlottetown, PEI; St. John’s, NL).
Stantec’s Atmospheric Sciences group supports clients across Atlantic Canada and beyond through a broad range of specialized services, including air quality (source emissions testing, ambient monitoring, and dispersion modelling), acoustics (noise monitoring and modelling), climate (climate risk and resilience, adaptation, greenhouse gas emissions quantification, verification,) lighting (visible light monitoring, modeling) and specialized studies on quantitative risks using computational fluid dynamics. The team also provides technical support for environmental impact assessments, regulatory permitting, compliance assessments, and associated technical reporting.
Reporting to the Senior Team Lead, the Team Lead will be an integral member of the Business Center’s leadership team, providing mentorship and direction to a highly capable and motivated team while supporting business growth and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality work that exceeds our clients’ expectations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Atmospheric Sciences practitioners, including mentoring, coaching, and supporting junior and intermediate staff as they develop their technical and professional skills
- Support workload planning and resource balancing across the team to align project needs, staff capacity, utilization targets, and opportunities for growth
- Contribute to team growth by supporting recruitment, onboarding, engagement, cross-training, and retention of new and existing staff
- Lead the performance review process for individuals on your team in a supportive, constructive, and consistent manner aligned with Stantec policy
- Chair regular team meetings to support communication, information sharing, collaboration, workload coordination, and alignment on team priorities
- Champion Stantec’s safety culture within the team by promoting safe work practices, accountability, and consistent application of health, safety, and quality procedures
- Lead and manage atmospheric sciences project work, which may include work in the fields of air quality, acoustics, climate change, or lighting (depending on the successful candidate’s experience)
- Guide day-to-day project delivery through effective project management, data management, analysis and interpretation, report preparation, proposal support, client communication, and quality review activities
- Support proposals including identifying project teams to meet client needs, preparing budgets, scopes of work, schedules, and proposed study methodologies following Stantec’s project management framework and industry best practices
Your Specialization
The ideal candidate will have foundational technical experience in two or more of the following areas:
- Supporting environmental impact assessment and permitting projects, including scoping, execution, analysis, and reporting related to the atmospheric environment.
- Emissions quantification and air dispersion modelling, including familiarity with models such as AERMOD and CALPUFF.
- Ambient air quality monitoring methods, equipment, data collection, data review, and reporting.
- Acoustical principles and experience with field measurement, monitoring, and assessment of sound and vibration, including ambient or baseline sound surveys.
- Sound and vibration measurement instruments and modelling software, such as CadnaA.
- Greenhouse gas quantification, verification, mitigation, and reduction planning.
- Source emissions testing methods, field procedures, and associated data review and reporting.
- Climate adaptation and resilience, including climate risk assessment, vulnerability assessment, adaptation planning, and resilience strategy development.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including people management, staff development, performance management, workload coordination, or project leadership
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build positive relationships, support team members, and engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Thorough understanding of the consulting industry, including project delivery, client service, quality management, and coordination in a multidisciplinary environment is an asset
- Demonstrate a practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, supported by strong organization, collaboration, prioritization, and coordination skills
- Possess a strong commitment to health, safety, inclusion, diversity, and respectful work practices.
- Valid driver’s license
- Proficiency in French, both spoken and written, is an asset
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in environmental sciences, geoscience, or engineering
Minimum 8 years of direct experience working with key aspects of the Atmospheric Sciences
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
