The Role

The Team Lead, Returns coordinates the day-to-day work of the Returns team and helps ensure return requests, vendor credits, and related customer credit activity are processed accurately and on time. This role provides guidance to team members, monitors workflow and outstanding items, and serves as an escalation point for complex issues. The Team Lead works closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Sales, Logistics, vendors, and other internal partners to resolve issues and keep return activity moving through completion.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 1 direct report and 2 consultants.
• Manage the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process which includes requesting RMAs; sending out approvals; following up with the customers on returns and vendors to ensure credits are processed.
• Handle escalations of issues with vendor invoices, over shipments and/or duplicate shipments; billing and resolution accordingly.
• Present Key Metrics for process improvements.
• Assist with streamlining processes.
• Build relationships with stakeholders to manage expectations.

• Ability to delegate tasks to staff and escalate issues to senior management when needed.
• Train and mentor staff.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in Returns/RMA, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, or a related operational function.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate work, support peers, and manage competing priorities; prior lead or mentoring experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with vendors and cross-functional teams.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, organization, and follow-through when managing multiple open items.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word; ability to create reports and use Excel functions such as lookups and pivot tables.
• Ability to work across multiple systems, vendor websites, and accounting or ERP platforms; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Great Plains is preferred.
• Self-directed, service-oriented, and comfortable identifying issues and recommending practical solutions.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Three to five years’ experience in Returns, RMA processing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Billing, or a similar specialty; demonstrated experience leading a team.
