Technical Co-Founder / CTO

Dunetrace is looking for a Technical Co-Founder / CTO to join us in building the infrastructure layer for reliable AI agents. AI agents are rapidly moving from prototypes into production. As they become more autonomous, companies need new infrastructure to understand what agents are doing, detect failures, enforce policies, and automatically recover from problems. Dunetrace is a VC-backed, Berlin-based, open-source startup focused on runtime reliability, and control for AI agents. We’re building technology that helps developers detect, understand, prevent, and fix agent failures in production. The Role As Technical Co-Founder / CTO, you will be a core technical leader of Dunetrace and will have significant ownership over our technology, architecture, product, and engineering direction. This is a hands-on founding role. We’re looking for someone who wants to build the product and the engineering organization from the ground up. You will work closely with the founder and customers to determine what we build, how we build it, and where Dunetrace can establish a significant technical advantage. Own the overall technical vision and architecture of Dunetrace Build and ship core product and infrastructure Design scalable systems for AI agent reliability, and runtime control Work on areas including agent execution, telemetry, evaluation, detection, policies, and automated remediation Make key decisions around architecture, infrastructure, APIs, developer experience, and security Work closely with early customers and translate their problems into product and technical solutions Help shape the open-source project and developer community Recruit and build the engineering team as the company grows Help define Dunetrace's long-term technical strategy and roadmap Strong software engineering background with experience building production systems Deep understanding of backend systems, distributed systems, APIs, and infrastructure Strong coding ability and a willingness to remain hands-on Experience taking products from early-stage development to production Strong technical judgment and ability to make pragmatic architecture decisions High ownership and comfort operating in an early-stage startup environment Genuine interest in AI agents and the rapidly evolving AI infrastructure ecosystem Candidates should be based in Germany or willing to relocate to Germany. Previous founder/co-founder or early-stage startup experience is strongly preferred. Experience with one or more of the following is a strong plus: AI agents and agentic frameworks AI/LLM observability Distributed systems and developer infrastructure OpenTelemetry or related observability technologies Significant co-founder equity with vesting Competitive salary, based on experience Full ownership of technical direction Remote-first working environment in Germany If you're excited about building the infrastructure that makes AI agents reliable in production, we'd love to hear from you.
