Technical Evaluator (Remote, US)

Position Overview
Organic Certifiers (FoodChain ID) is seeking a Handling Scope Technical Evaluator to support our organic certification program. This role is responsible for evaluating certification applications, organic system plans, and compliance documentation to ensure adherence to USDA National Organic Program (NOP) standards. Experience reviewing Natural Flavors and complex handling operations desired.
Role Overview
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform simple and moderately complex reviews of applications, organic system plans, and supporting documentation for new and renewing clients. Conduct comprehensive reviews of material provided by clients, inspectors, and internal team members.
• Contact clients to communicate findings, review noncompliances, clarify regulatory requirements, and resolve outstanding issues.
• Provide advanced technical support and assist colleagues in understanding complex certification issues.
• Maintain recordkeeping systems in accordance with internal procedures and accreditation requirements.
• Review and approve site additions, seed/planting stock compliance, product formulations, product labels, and input materials.
• Conduct reviews and desk audits, including those requiring higher technical judgment. Issue findings to the client.
• Support new business development through program, quality system, and certification documentation improvement.
• Participate in training and development meetings, contributing to subject matter expertise as appropriate.
• Participate in ACA discussions and group activities as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Competency Expectations:

• 2–4 years of certification or related regulatory experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of organic certification standards and review processes.
• Able to manage complex files independently and contribute to department efficiency and consistency.
• Must have sufficient expertise in organic production or handling techniques to successfully perform the duties assigned. Sufficient expertise must include knowledge of certification to USDA organic standards and evidence of education, training, or professional experience in the fields of agriculture, science, or organic production and handling that relates to assigned duties.
• Excellent communication skills on the phone and in writing including the ability to clearly communicate complex and technical concepts.
• Comfort using a computer for multiple hours at a time.
• Competency in Microsoft platform applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint.
• Excellent skills to organize, monitor, and track numerous activities throughout the year.
