Tech Lead (path to CTO)
Must be based in the Midwest, ideally Indianapolis or Chicago (remote with travel)
Hampton North is partnering with a profitable, fast-growing company in the real estate and property management space to hire their first in-house technology leader. They're a small, well-funded team that already works with thousands of members nationwide. Now they're building a platform to bring purchasing, spend visibility, and rebate tracking into one place, and they need someone to own it.
Compensation: $170-200 base
Location: Remote with travel, but MUST be based in Midwest (ideally Indianapolis or Chicago)
Unable to provide sponsorship
It's a stable, cash flow positive business with a leadership team that's serious about technology and wants someone who can lead it.
What you'll do
- Own the platform roadmap and architecture, turning business needs into clear requirements and priorities
- Lead delivery with an established external engineering team, review technical decisions, and flag risks early
- Drive a CRM/backend migration, website rebuild, and mobile app development
- Work with partners on data integrations for purchasing, spend reporting, and rebates
- Get in front of customers and their IT teams, on site when needed
- Set direction for internal tech (collaboration tools, AI, cybersecurity) and help decide when to build an in-house team
And what you'll need to have
- A software engineering background and experience shipping production software
- Enough technical depth to evaluate architecture, APIs, and data integrations
- Familiarity with TypeScript and React Native (web folks keen to work on mobile are welcome)
- Strong communication: you can go deep with engineers and explain things simply to non-technical executives
- Good product judgment and comfort making tradeoffs with incomplete information
- A generalist mindset and a willingness to own things well beyond a narrow job description
