Bring your geology expertise to a European geothermal research proposal.
Inspiralia is looking for a scientist with a PhD in geology who enjoys making complex research clear, convincing and accessible. In this short-term freelance role, you will help an eight-partner consortium turn its scientific ideas into a Horizon Europe proposal exploring geothermal resources in deep sedimentary and basement reservoirs.
If you enjoy connecting ideas, asking the right scientific questions and shaping a strong research narrative, this is an opportunity to put those skills into practice beyond academic publishing. You do not need previous funding-proposal experience: we value your scientific judgement and the quality of your writing.
What you will work on
Your main focus will be the scientific excellence section: setting out the research objectives, explaining the methodology and making a compelling case for the project's novelty. You will also draft and integrate the full proposal, expected to be around 45 pages, with substantial input and review from the consortium. Inspiralia will provide particular support on impact and implementation.
- Turn partners' scientific contributions into clear, persuasive proposal text.
- Build a coherent account of the research rationale, innovation and methodology.
- Identify gaps and work with experts to strengthen the scientific narrative.
- Align the proposal with the call's scope and evaluation criteria.
- Integrate feedback and keep the final document consistent.
What you will bring
- A PhD in geology and the judgement to critically assess and synthesise complex research.
- Excellent written English, supported by an example of clear, persuasive scientific writing.
- Strong organisation and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a team.
- Availability for a concentrated period of writing and revision through to 1 December 2026.
Experience in geothermal research, deep sedimentary or basement reservoirs, or related subsurface research would be an advantage. Formal postdoctoral employment and previous proposal-writing experience are not required.
Why join this project?
You will collaborate with an international research consortium, contribute your expertise to a geothermal research proposal and gain practical experience in Horizon Europe proposal development. With input and feedback from Inspiralia’s team, you will see how scientific excellence connects with impact, commercial potential and project delivery.
Inspiralia is an international innovation funding consultancy helping organisations turn research and technology into fundable projects.
