Position Summary & Duties
The Technical Publications Author prepares Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs) in the form of technical manual supplements, technical instructions, checklists, and other technical documentation that supports the safe, effective deployment and use of new designs at the flight line. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the incumbent contributes to aircraft modification programs, avionics system upgrades, and fleet modernization initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, airworthiness, and operational requirements.
The role is critical to the accurate and familiar expression of procedures and instructions for use in maintenance and operations.
The Tech Publications Author helps deliver safe, reliable, and effective technical solutions that support current and future operational requirements.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician to support all areas of the Top Aces fleet with accurate, easy to use technical publications.
The successful candidate will have used technical publications, ideally for a variety of different aircraft, and be fully conversant with what makes a good technical manual because of this experience.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Broad and deep knowledge of the structure and content of technical manuals. This includes but is not limited to:
- Publications group inventory and structure, including LOAP.
- Ordering/organization of content including ATA and WUC structures
- Individual publication functions including maintenance manual, system MM, IPB/IPC, AFM
- Version Control and Controlled Document procedures
- Detailed knowledge of aerospace manual practices (IPB/IPC alternate part annotations, etc)
- Detailed knowledge of troubleshooting and system description protocols.
- Conversant with the expression of safety hazards and protocols in technical manuals.
- Knowledge of aircraft Configuration Management, Airworthiness Clearance, Certification and Design concepts;
- Fluent with the Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SharePoint, an asset
- Fluent and productive in the use of document editing software (Office, Word, Adobe) for document production:
- Able to access, manipulate and embed engineering drawings, figures and other graphics
- Able to develop and manage good functional document layouts
- Able to manipulate and embed data in tabular and checklist formats.
- Able to make annotations including hyperlinks within documents.
- Able to build and manage List of Effective pages and maintain version control of a document.
- Possess effective interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills to meet tight deadlines
- Fluent written and oral communications skills in English
- Professional proficiency in French and or German, an asset

Position requires Controlled Goods Clearance and must be eligible to receive a Level 2 (Secret) Clearance
