Technical SEO & GEO (AI Search) Manager

Owner of the organic acquisition channel and its P&L · B2B SaaS portfolio company (Europe and the Americas) · Remote (Portugal), CET ±1

GEO = Generative Engine Optimisation (AI search): getting our content cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.

You will own organic search and answer-engine visibility as an acquisition channel with its own P&L: content and tooling cost on one side, sales-qualified leads (SQL) and closed revenue on the other.

You report to the head of marketing and work directly with sales, who are the internal customer of every lead you produce.

Your first challenge (first 90 days)

The company has a large legacy blog built for volume: hundreds of posts, many overlapping, many ranking for queries that never convert. Your first job is to make it smaller and sharper, and to rebuild it for answer engines as much as for Google.

  • Consolidate. Crawl and classify every URL (traffic, conversions, cannibalisation, backlinks, freshness). Decide what stays, merges, redirects or dies. Deliver a consolidation map with 301s and fewer indexed URLs, without losing converting traffic.
  • Rewrite for GEO. Direct answers in the first 150 words, verifiable facts and figures, entity and schema coverage, citations, consistent numbers across site and documentation, an llms.txt, and content structured so AI models can quote it.
  • Track answer engines. A fixed bank of 50 to 100 buyer queries per market, run weekly against the main models, with share of citations as a KPI next to rankings.
  • Set the strategy. Turn the current SEO strategy into a combined SEO + GEO strategy with a published roadmap, priorities by market and language (English, Spanish, Italian), and a content calendar signed off by sales.

What you own after that

  • Organic channel P&L: content cost, tools, freelancers, and the SQL, pipeline and revenue attributed to organic in the CRM. Reported monthly.
  • Technical health: crawl budget, Core Web Vitals, indexation, internal linking, structured data, hreflang across three languages, log-file analysis.
  • Conversion: landing pages per intent, forms, CTAs, experiments with the CRO owner. Organic is measured in SQL, not sessions.
  • Review sites: G2, Capterra and equivalents as part of the organic footprint.
  • Content quality: briefing writers and AI-assisted production, and editing the output. You are the last line of quality before publishing.

Stack you should already know

  • Google Search Console, GA4, Looker Studio or equivalent. Screaming Frog or Sitebulb. Ahrefs or Semrush. Log-file analysis.
  • Schema.org and JSON-LD, hreflang, redirects at scale, WordPress or similar CMS with Elementor-type builders, basic HTML and CSS.
  • HubSpot or similar CRM for attribution from first touch to deal. Python or SQL is a strong plus.
  • Answer-engine optimisation in practice: you have measured and moved citations in at least one model, not just read about it.

How we measure you (targets set together in month 1)

  • Organic SQL per month and cost per SQL: baseline in month 1; growth target from month 4.
  • Share of citations in answer engines: baseline in month 1; monthly growth target by market.
  • Indexed URLs vs converting URLs: fewer URLs, same or more converting traffic by day 90.
  • Non-brand organic sessions to high-intent pages and conversion rate: monthly, by market and language.
  • Channel contribution margin: reported monthly; quarterly variable tied to it.

Must-have

  • 5+ years of technical SEO, with at least one documented consolidation or migration of a large site (500+ URLs) without traffic loss.
  • Hands-on GEO work with measured results. You can explain how you got a model to cite a page.
  • You have reported SEO as revenue, not rankings, and defended it to a sales or finance leader.
  • Working English. Spanish or Italian is a plus (the sites run in three languages).

Not a fit if

  • You run SEO through an agency and review their reports. Here you are the agency.
  • Your portfolio is traffic charts without a revenue line underneath.

Location, contract and compensation

  • Remote, based in Portugal (within one hour of Central European Time, CET ±1).
  • Full-time contractor or local employment through an EOR.
  • Fixed compensation plus a variable tied to the channel P&L (margin after media, tools and partner costs), paid quarterly. Ranges are shared in the first call.

How we hire

  • 30-minute call to confirm fit and compensation.
  • 48-hour technical case built on anonymised real data from the company.
  • 60-minute defence with the hiring manager, where we change the conditions live.
  • Decision within a week of the defence.

We read the case for one thing: whether you can own a channel P&L and show the number moving. Tool lists and generic benchmarks do not score. Figures that come from the data pack, and something built that runs, do.
