Technical Specialist 3 (Substation)

Description GAI Consultants is currently seeking a Technical Specialist 3 to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department. The successful candidate will work on various substation engineering projects including detailed design for high voltage substation projects from 12kV through 500kV. Responsibilities: Perform detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage substations and switchyards Develop and/or revise existing drawings for one-line, physical arrangement, electrical schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, grounding, conduit and wire schedules, bill of materials, site development, battery sizing, and equipment layout, including coordinating with CAD operators to develop organized, quality CAD drawings Integrate physical layout and design of substations to interface with protection and control drawings or vice versa Develop control and relay panel layouts including assembling the specifications Create project criteria Develop design specifications including the overall bill of materials Design and size auxiliary systems including AC/DC load centers as well as batteries and chargers Design and size conduit, cable, and backup generators Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews Assist with the technical development of the scope of services and cost estimates for substation and P&C projects Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program with a strong academic background and coursework in electrical power concepts/AC power systems analysis Strong communication skills, including written and oral communication skills, in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel Detail-oriented and able to demonstrate professionalism at all times, with a “Client First” approach to all interactions Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and possess strong time management skills. Proficient with MS Office applications Desired Skills and Experience: Familiarity with substation design General Characteristics Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area. Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams. Applies leadership and teamwork skills to effectively plan, execute, and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet project stakeholder needs. Minimum Years of Experience 4+ Years of Experience Education B.S. Engineering or other technical degree. Technical Responsibilities Supports design of a complete project, system, component, or process. Occasionally prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents. Supports design work in both independent and team-oriented environments. Project and Task Management Occasionally plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work. Occasionally prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments. Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects. Management Responsibility Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Occasionally attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments. Communication Skills Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences. Why GAI?
