SUMMARY

The Technical Trainer position is a full-time, hybrid position intended for a senior-level fire suppression and/or fire alarm technician. The position is responsible for providing in-person instruction for technical courses, developing apprentices, developing new courses and updating existing ones, developing training materials, and answering field technical support calls. The position requires participation within the overall training organization in the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All team members must embody the company mission to provide protection for people, property, and the environment in all aspects of their job.

  • Support the learning and growth of company associates by development and delivery of a complete training curriculum which is continually revised to address the changing requirements of the business over time. Relevant training topics will include but not be limited to the company’s products (Fire Protection Systems and Equipment), operating procedures (ISO Quality System) and job skills.

  • Create and facilitate instructor-led in-person and online courses.

  • Create and facilitate online courses for our LMS (webinars, eLearning, video, etc.).

  • Periodically prepare and deliver customer training programs. These programs will include training on the operation of a site-specific system or fire protection products/solutions.

  • Develop lesson plans, classroom exercises, presentation materials, handout materials and examinations to support technical training classes or modules.

  • Fabricate, prepare and maintain demonstration equipment including fire protection control panels, devices and other instrumentation necessary to support training activities.

  • Provide on-demand technical support (telephone or on-site) to associates in the field as needed.

  • Maintain records related to the training program including company courses, grades, employee development programs, and external training certificates. Records will be kept digitally within the company’s learning management system.

  • Attend approved manufacturer product training courses and meetings.

  • Represent the company in a professional and positive manner.

  • Conform to the company’s quality management system.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to present, teach, and host a class of multiple students lasting three or so days.

  • Creative problem solver and tinkerer

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to visualize situations without being there.

  • Curiosity about technological solutions

  • Microsoft Office365 knowledge – Specifically Word and PowerPoint

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent education, required.

  • Ten or more years servicing and installing suppression detection and control systems, required.

  • NICET Level 3 or 4 certification in Fire Alarm or Special Hazards, preferred.

  • Current manufacturer training certificates from Kidde, Fike, Ansul, NOTIFIER, Siemens, Potter or Gamewell-FCI, preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primary work location will be remote from your residence.

  • Regular travel to the Louisville Headquarters is expected for this position to prepare for and teach classes.

  • Up to 10% overnight travel required. Some travel to ORR office locations and to some customer sites.

  • This position will require frequent interaction with co-workers over the phone and internet.

  • All associates are required to pass a drug screen, background check and motor vehicle records report.
