As a Telecom Drafter, you will be engaged in the preparation and revision of telecommunications drawings and CAD deliverables across a variety of projects for CIMA+'s key clients. Our telecommunications team works with industrial and public-sector clients across power utilities, energy, transportation, telecommunications carriers, and other critical infrastructure sectors.
You will create and update detailed drawings from engineering sketches, redlines, field information, vendor documentation and client standards; prepare drawing packages and related schedules; coordinate with engineers and designers; and support the delivery of accurate, reliable and constructible telecommunications designs across a broad range of wired and wireless applications.
This role offers opportunities to strengthen your telecom drafting capabilities, broaden your exposure to mission-critical infrastructure projects, and progressively take on more complex assignments. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of our offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and revise detailed telecommunications CAD drawings in 2D and 3D, including system block diagrams, network diagrams, equipment layouts, rack elevations, panel layouts, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable routing, details and installation drawings.
- Incorporate engineering sketches, redlines, vendor drawings, field information and client standards into drawing deliverables.
- Prepare bills of materials, cable schedules, equipment lists, nameplate schedules and other drawing-related schedules and data sheets.
- Prepare complete drawing and deliverable packages for review by engineers and designers.
- Maintain a high level of drawing accuracy, consistency and compliance with project and client standards.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers and other project team members to resolve drawing comments and obtain required design information.
- Organize and prioritize multiple drafting assignments to meet project schedules and quality requirements.
- Support record/as-built drawing updates and document closeout activities.
- Participate in site visits and field verification activities, as required.
- Degree or diploma in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, or equivalent technical training/certification.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant drafting experience, preferably in telecommunications, utilities, industrial, transportation, or other infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and good working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD drafting.
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches, markups, technical drawings and design information.
- Good understanding of CAD standards, drawing organization, layering, references and plotting.
- Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, designers and project teams and manage multiple assignments.

Drafting & CAD Experience
Experience with several of the following drafting tools, deliverables and practices is preferred, commensurate with the level of the position.
- Telecom Drawings:
- System block and network diagrams; equipment and rack layouts; panel layouts; wiring and interconnection diagrams; cable routing; installation details; sections and elevations; record/as-built drawings
- CAD / 2D-3D:
- AutoCAD; 2D and 3D drawing development; external references; layers; blocks; plotting; drawing setup and package management
- Drawing Coordination:
- Engineering markups; vendor drawings; field information; client standards; interdisciplinary interfaces; drawing review and clash/conflict identification
- Schedules & Data:
- Bills of materials; cable schedules; equipment lists; nameplate schedules; drawing-related schedules and data sheets
Assets
- Major Asset: Experience or exposure to Substation Design Suite (SDS) and AutoCAD Electrical, including their use in developing coordinated 3D drawings/models and associated substation or telecommunications design deliverables.
- Experience or exposure to related engineering disciplines, including Electrical, Protection & Control (P&C), Civil and Structural design.
- Experience with power utility, substation, transmission and distribution, transportation, industrial, or other critical infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of MicroStation, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, Inventor, GIS or BIM workflows.
- Knowledge of CAD customization, templates, blocks, scripts, or drafting automation.
- Knowledge of client drafting standards, safety requirements and engineering drawing practices.
