What You’ll Get To Do
The Telecommunications Engineer supports power system communications and SCADA infrastructure within high-voltage substations and related utility facilities. This role owns the implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of telecommunications systems that enable secure and reliable transmission of voice, data, monitoring, protection, and control signals.
This position works closely with power system engineers, controls specialists, field technicians, and project teams to deliver reliable communications infrastructure for utility customers.

What You’ll Get To Do
The Telecommunications Engineer supports power system communications and SCADA infrastructure within high-voltage substations and related utility facilities. This role owns the implementation, testing, troubleshooting, and integration of telecommunications systems that enable secure and reliable transmission of voice, data, monitoring, protection, and control signals.
This position works closely with power system engineers, controls specialists, field technicians, and project teams to deliver reliable communications infrastructure for utility customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and test telecommunications systems supporting power infrastructure
- Support fiber optic networks (single-mode and multi-mode), Ethernet switches, and wireless communication systems
- Configure and integrate SCADA RTUs, Digital Protection Units (DPUs), and associated communication interfaces
- Deploy and troubleshoot networking equipment including media converters, Ethernet radios, and multiplexers
- Configure GPS IRIG-B time synchronization systems for SCADA and protection relays
- Perform system diagnostics and troubleshoot telecommunications and control system issues
- Collaborate with power system engineers to ensure proper integration with protection and control systems
- Maintain documentation including test plans, system configurations, and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in telecommunications engineering within power systems or utility environments
- Strong understanding of power system operations and SCADA communication protocols
- Experience configuring and testing fiber optic systems, Ethernet switches, and serial communication protocols
- Familiarity with telecommunications equipment such as multiplexers, Ethernet radios, and GPS time synchronization systems
- Hands-on troubleshooting and system diagnostics experience
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work in field environments, including substations and remote facilities
- Salary: $117,000 – $165,000 annually (based on education and experience)
