Join Our Team as a Telephony Account Manager (Wealth and Workplace) at Royal London
This is a telephone-based business development role for someone who enjoys finding opportunities, starting conversations and turning adviser interest into new business. You will manage your own panel of financial adviser firms across Individual Pensions, Investments and workplace pensions, with a clear new business target to achieve.
Success comes from being visible and purposeful with advisers. You will plan your activity, make proactive outbound calls, arrange adviser meetings on Teams and use account and pipeline information to decide where your time is most likely to create progress. You will ask good questions, understand how each firm operates and identify where Royal London can help, then agree a clear next step and follow it through.
Relationships matter because they help create better sales conversations, although this is not a servicing or customer service position. You will be expected to build momentum across your panel, develop new and existing adviser relationships and take ownership of opportunities from the first conversation through to an outcome and ongoing. That includes handling objections, positioning our propositions with confidence and remaining interested in the success of firms you work with.
You will join a team that shares knowledge, shares best practice and consultative sales conversations. We help each other work through opportunities. At the same time, you will manage your own diary, activity and pipeline, using feedback and performance information to keep improving your approach.
We would like to hear from people who are professionally curious, self-motivated and comfortable being measured against sales results. You may already work in intermediary sales, or you may bring relevant business development experience from elsewhere. Either way, you will need to show that you can create your own activity, maintain momentum and keep going when an opportunity takes time to develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and carry out a focused plan for your adviser panel, prioritising firms and contacts where there is a credible opportunity to win, retain or grow wealth and workplace business.
- Create a consistent level of proactive sales activity through outbound telephone calls and Teams meetings, opening conversations with a clear purpose and giving advisers a reason to engage.
- Use questioning, adviser insight, campaign information and pipeline data to find opportunities, position the relevant Royal London proposition, handle objections and agree a clear next step.
- Own opportunities from first contact through to outcome, keeping pipeline information current, following up commitments and working with colleagues where their knowledge can help move business forward.
- Work towards agreed new business, retention and activity measures while following Royal London’s sales process, Consumer Duty principles, compliance requirements and risk controls.
About You
- A record of proactive business development, consultative sales or intermediary sales, ideally within financial services and across wealth or pension propositions.
- A self-starting approach. You look for opportunities, create reasons to call and remain focused when advisers are difficult to reach or a sale takes time to develop.
- Ideally you will have attained or can demonstrate working towards the Diploma Level 4 qualification through the CII, LIBF or an equivalent body.
- Enough technical and market knowledge to hold credible conversations with advisers, supported by an understanding of adviser research systems, platforms and model portfolio services.
- Confidence discussing industry, technical and legislative developments with advisers and decision-makers, then connecting those discussions to a relevant business opportunity.
- Knowledge of Royal London and competitor propositions, or the ability and appetite to build that knowledge quickly.
- Strong telephone and video-conferencing skills, including opening calls well, building rapport quickly, asking follow-up questions, handling objections and securing meaningful next steps.
- The organisation and discipline to plan ahead, protect time for proactive calls, maintain accurate pipeline information and follow through on commitments.
- Personal ownership, resilience and curiosity, with a willingness to use coaching and performance information to improve your sales approach.
If you feel you’d be a great fit for Royal London but don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Research shows some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria - if you meet most requirements and are keen to learn, we encourage you to apply!
