Be Part of What's Next

Men’s Health and Women’s Health are looking for a hands-on visual storyteller to help bring our brands to life across video. As Temporary Director of Photography, Producer, and Editor, you’ll shoot, light, produce, and edit alongside our Executive Producer and production team—bringing sharp visual taste, strong technical instincts, and a collaborative, problem-solving mindset to every project.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is home to 30 of the world’s most influential media brands, reaching audiences across print, digital, video, social, and experiential platforms. Our brands inspire, inform, and entertain millions of people every day, while our teams create innovative, award-winning content across media, advertising, technology, fashion, lifestyle, and publishing.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Shoot and capture high-quality video content for Men’s Health and Women’s Health across editorial, branded, studio, and documentary-style productions.

  • Light and compose footage with a strong eye for visual storytelling, consistency, and brand-appropriate aesthetics.

  • Partner with the Executive Producer and production team to plan and execute shoots, proactively identifying production needs and solving problems in real time.

  • Produce and support shoots from preparation through delivery, helping coordinate logistics, talent, equipment, schedules, and on-set needs.

  • Edit video content in a modern NLE, with Premiere preferred, including rough cuts, selects, revisions, and final exports and versions for review.

  • Maintain organized post-production workflows, including file management, audio awareness, continuity, project organization, and incorporating collaborative notes.

  • Collaborate with producers, editors, and other creative partners to refine storytelling and deliver polished content on deadline.

  • Adapt to changing production needs and jump in wherever additional coverage, creative problem-solving, or post-production support is needed.

Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in cinematography, video production, editing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Demonstrated DP/camera experience in digital, documentary, branded, studio, or similar production environments.

  • Strong lighting and composition fundamentals, with excellent visual taste and an instinct for compelling storytelling.

  • Producer-minded approach: proactive, organized, resourceful, calm under pressure, and comfortable identifying and solving problems independently.

  • Confident editing skills in a modern NLE; Premiere Pro preferred, with Avid or DaVinci Resolve experience also valued.

  • Strong post-production fundamentals, including file organization, audio awareness, continuity, versioning, and comfort working collaboratively from notes.

  • Ability to support shoots as needed, including early calls and occasional travel depending on production.

  • Ability to work in person in New York City Tuesday through Thursday, with remote work on Monday.
