Job Description:

The Temporary Production Manager will oversee production and stage management for the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) and serves as Production Manager for the assigned off-campus opera, Rake’s Progress, held at the Wimberly Theatre in April 2027 The PM is a key member of the Performance Services team for the off-campus productions, reporting to the Assistant Director of Production, and supervises the stage management team. The PM works closely with the Technical Director, Lighting Supervisor, Audio Supervisor, Costume Shop Manager and the full Performance Services team to provide excellent production schedule and support. This position will also work closely with guest designers, faculty directors and choreographers, and students. This is a temporary position that is anticipated to work through May 3, 2027. Communication will begin in the fall, while the design is being developed. Much of this position’s expected work may be done remotely, with on-site presence beginning end of March 2027 - mid April as needed.

RAKE’S PROGRESS TENTATIVE SCHEDULE:

  • First week in the space starts on March 29, 2027
  • Tech: Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11, 2027 from 10am - 9pm
  • All Department Notes and Dress Rehearsals in the evenings of: April 12, 13, 14, 2027
  • Performances: April 15 @ 7:30pm, April 16 @ 7:30pm, April 17 @ 7:30pm, April 18 @ 1:00pm
  • Strike to follow final performance. Pick ups on Tuesday, April 20, 2027

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Participate in production meetings, including recording and disseminating information, scheduling and leading meetings, and ensuring stakeholders are informed.
  • Create and maintain detailed production calendar, ensuring relevant schedules are shared with creative teams, production staff, and Division leadership as needed.
  • Create labor lists and disseminate this information to ensure calls are staffed appropriately.
  • Communicate with Conservatory staff for all transportation needs for trucking.
  • Monitor production budgets and liaise with the Director of Performance Services, production team, deans, and associated production’s director on production-related costs, ensuring a balanced budget.
  • Uphold design deadlines and offer consultation with Production staff and guest designers as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Concert Services team (part of the Performance Services department) on support and needs for pit orchestras, music ensembles, and other events as needed.
  • Attend in person load-in days, designer run. work calls, tech, and dress performances.
  • Create and communicate out end of day reports to the production, creative team, and venue staff, prior to tech as we will shift to stage management rehearsal reports.
  • Be on site for strike and the Tuesday following closing performance to ensure all items are picked up.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Dance, Music, Arts Administration or similar field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3- 5 years experience as a production manager, technical director, stage manager or similar role in a professional production company
  • 3 or more years experience supervising professional staff
  • Previous experience as an event manager or similar role
  • Previous experience working in higher ed is preferred

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suite
  • Experience with 25Live, Smartsheet, or similar software and databases preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Indoor environments, some with low light: stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms, costume shop, storage spaces, prop and scenery storage, office spaces, workshop, control booth
  • Seated and standing positions
  • Stairs and ladders


SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:


  • Ability to climb short ladders
  • Ability to lift objects of up to 30 pounds
  • Nights and weekends required

Hourly Rate: $28-$30; salary dependent on relevant experience and education.
