Who are we?

We’re here to help people live well and create a better and more sustainable future. We support healthy and liveable communities by delivering water, sewerage and recycled water services to 1.77 million people who rely on us every day and every night. At South East Water, we innovate with purpose and act with care to deliver healthy water for life. Fresh thinking and collaboration are at the heart of our organisation. We are constantly learning, embracing the challenges of today and excited by the opportunities that tomorrow will bring.

The role

South East Water is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Test Analyst to provide specialist security testing and assurance across a growing portfolio of cyber security initiatives.

The Cyber Security Test Analyst will play a key role in independently validating that security controls have been implemented effectively and operate as intended across enterprise IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments. The role will support initiatives including IT/OT network segmentation, Identity and Access Management (IAM), vulnerability management, Essential Eight uplift, and other cyber security improvements.

The successful candidate will bring practical experience in security and penetration testing, with the ability to identify vulnerabilities, validate security controls and assess potential attack paths. Particular value will be placed on experience testing authentication and authorisation controls, privileged access, network boundaries and communications between systems and security zones.

This role requires a strong understanding of cyber security principles, security testing methodologies and risk-based assurance, combined with the judgement required to perform security testing safely within business-critical environments.

Who are you?

A passionate and driven cyber security testing professional, you will have demonstrated experience in security testing, vulnerability assessment and/or penetration testing, supported by a strong understanding of modern enterprise security controls. You will be comfortable working across application, infrastructure, network and identity layers and will understand how vulnerabilities and control weaknesses can be exploited across interconnected environments. Experience with industrial or Operational Technology security will be particularly valuable.

The following skills, knowledge and experience will help you succeed in the role:

  • Demonstrated experience in cyber security testing, vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.
  • Experience assessing network security and segmentation controls, including firewalls, security zones, DMZs and permitted communication paths.
  • Experience testing Identity and Access Management (IAM) controls, including authentication, authorisation, role-based access, privileged access and least-privilege principles.
  • Knowledge of OT/ICS security architectures, particularly network segmentation and the IEC 62443 zones-and-conduits model.
  • Understanding of Australian cyber security guidance and security frameworks, including the ASD/ACSC Essential Eight, particularly where these controls need to be independently verified through testing.
  • Ability to develop clear, risk-based security test scenarios, test cases and evidence and communicate vulnerabilities and control gaps effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand complex system interactions and potential attack paths.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work with cyber security, infrastructure, application, architecture and operational teams.
  • Previous experience in the utilities, critical infrastructure, water or OT/ICS sectors will be highly regarded.
