Job Family Summary:
The Quality Assurance (QA) department ensures that every software solution released, from the THYNK and ROBIN modules to core RCM systems, is reliable, functional, and technically sound before it reaches the client.
In a healthcare technology environment like Santechture's, the QA department operates as the final gatekeeper for accuracy and compliance.
Role Summary:
The QA Lead is responsible for modernizing Santechture's quality practice and leading the QA team in the delivery of reliable, interoperable healthcare software. The role combines hands-on test automation expertise with the practical adoption of AI in quality engineering, and places strong emphasis on coaching the team in modern QA practices.
The role begins with a structured assessment of the existing QA practice across tooling, process, and organization, followed by the definition and implementation of a remediation roadmap. Once the target practice is in place, the QA Lead organizes the team, leads it on a day-to-day basis as its primary point of reference, and works closely with Software Development, Product Management, and Delivery to ensure predictable, high-quality releases that meet technical standards (HL7/FHIR) and clinical requirements for our healthcare clients in the MENA region.
Primary Responsibilities:
A. QA Practice Assessment & Remediation (Initial Phase)
- Conduct a structured assessment of the current QA practice, covering tooling, test assets, processes, quality gates, team structure, roles, and skills.
- Establish a quality baseline using measurable indicators such as automation coverage, defect leakage, regression cycle time, and test stability.
- Identify gaps against modern QA practice and define a prioritized remediation roadmap across tooling, process, and organization, for validation by management.
- Lead the implementation of the approved roadmap, tracking progress against milestones and adjusting scope based on measured outcomes.
B. Test Automation Strategy & Delivery
- Define and own the test automation strategy based on the test pyramid, balancing unit, API, integration, and UI automation.
- Select, standardize, and maintain automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, REST Assured, Postman/Newman), ensuring maintainable and reusable test code.
- Integrate automated smoke, regression, and build verification suites into CI/CD pipelines, with clear reporting and fast feedback to development teams.
- Drive API and integration test automation for healthcare data exchange (HL7/FHIR), claims workflows, and backend data validation (SQL).
- Manage automation health, including flaky test reduction, test data management, and environment readiness.
C. AI-Enabled Quality Engineering
- Introduce and scale the practical use of AI in the QA lifecycle, including test case generation from requirements, test script authoring, test data generation, and defect analysis.
- Evaluate and pilot AI-assisted testing tools, recommending adoption based on measured productivity and quality gains.
- Define guidelines for responsible AI usage in QA, including human review of AI-generated assets and protection of patient and client data.
D. Coaching & Modern QA Practice
- Coach QA engineers and testers on modern practices, including shift-left testing, risk-based testing, exploratory testing, and behaviour-driven development (BDD).
- Build team capability through a skills matrix and individual development plans, with a focus on upskilling manual testers into automation and AI-assisted testing.
- Review test designs and automation code, providing structured feedback and enforcing agreed standards.
- Promote quality as a shared responsibility with development teams through joint definition of acceptance criteria and quality gates.
E. Team Organization & Day-to-Day Leadership
- Define the QA team structure, roles, and allocation across products and delivery streams, aligned with the remediation roadmap.
- Act as the day-to-day reference for the QA team on priorities, test approach, standards, and issue resolution.
- Plan and manage test capacity, execution schedules, and backlog test queues in terms of deadlines, throughput, and quality of delivery.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for testing and quality with development teams and project delivery leads.
F. Test Lifecycle & Quality Governance
- Oversee functional, regression, integration, performance, data integrity, and user acceptance testing (UAT) across Web, API, and Database modules.
- Govern the defect lifecycle in Jira/Azure DevOps, ensuring clear documentation, prioritization, and timely resolution with development leads.
- Provide accurate QA status reporting, release quality metrics, and risk escalations to senior management.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Experience:
- 6+ years of total experience in Software Quality Assurance and Testing, including at least 3 years of hands-on test automation.
- 2+ years of experience leading QA teams, including coaching engineers and driving the adoption of new practices.
- Demonstrated track record of assessing and transforming an existing QA practice across tooling, process, and team organization.
- Strong background in testing enterprise SaaS platforms, complex data workflows, and RESTful APIs.
- Domain Experience: Experience in Healthcare IT, Health Information Systems (HIS), Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), or Insurance Claims processing is strongly preferred.
Technical Competencies:
- Advanced hands-on experience with at least one modern automation framework (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium) and a programming language (TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Python, or C#).
- Hands-on experience with API test automation (REST Assured, Postman/Newman, or similar) and integration testing, with familiarity with HL7/FHIR.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins).
- Practical experience applying AI tools in testing (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLM-assisted test design, AI-based test platforms), with a clear understanding of their limitations.
- Proficient in SQL querying for backend data validation and database integrity testing.
- Deep experience with test management and defect tracking tools (Jira, Xray, Zephyr, or TestRail).
- Exposure to performance testing tools (JMeter, k6, or similar) is desirable.
Certifications (Desirable): ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineering, ISTQB Test Manager, ISTQB Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI), or Agile Tester Certification.
Soft Skills: Strong coaching and mentoring ability, clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, structured problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under tight deployment timelines.
Core Competencies:
- Change Leadership: Drives adoption of new tools and practices, and sustains change through measurable outcomes.
- Coaching & Capability Building: Develops team members through hands-on guidance, feedback, and structured learning.
- Analytical & Systems Thinking: Diagnoses root causes across tooling, process, and organization rather than symptoms.
- Ownership & Accountability: Takes end-to-end responsibility for release quality and follows issues through to resolution.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Aligns QA priorities with Development, Product, and Delivery to support release commitments.
