The opportunity

ISG is expanding its network of independent consultants and is seeking experienced Food Security Technical Experts for inclusion in its technical expert roster. Consultants may be considered for future assignments based on client needs, technical fit, geographic experience, language skills and availability.

Assignments may range from short advisory inputs to more substantial technical, research, evaluation or capacity-strengthening engagements and may be delivered remotely, in-country or through a hybrid arrangement.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality technical advice and subject-matter expertise for assigned projects and client engagements.
  • Conduct or contribute to assessments, research, evaluations, contextual analyses and other evidence-generating activities.
  • Support the design, review and strengthening of programs, strategies, frameworks, methodologies and technical approaches.
  • Develop or review technical tools, guidance, manuals, curricula, training materials and other assignment deliverables as relevant.
  • Analyze qualitative and/or quantitative information and translate findings into clear, practical and actionable recommendations.
  • Facilitate consultations, workshops, training, coaching or capacity-strengthening activities where required.
  • Produce clear, well-structured and technically sound reports, presentations and other written outputs.
  • Work collaboratively with ISG, clients, partners and other stakeholders while meeting agreed quality standards and timelines.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Advanced university degree in food security, agriculture, economics, development studies or another relevant discipline.
  • Strong professional experience in food security programming, analysis or technical advisory work.
  • Experience in assessments, targeting, program design, monitoring, research or evaluation.
  • Knowledge of relevant food security methodologies, standards and evidence.
  • Strong analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality outputs within agreed timelines.
  • Experience working with international or national NGOs, UN agencies, donors, public institutions, consulting firms or similar organizations is an asset.
  • Experience in humanitarian, development, recovery or other complex operating environments is highly desirable.
  • Professional proficiency in English. Arabic, French and/or other languages may be required or considered an asset depending on the assignment.

The scope of work, deliverables, level of effort, timeline, reporting arrangements, location and consultancy fees will be agreed separately for each engagement.

Geographic coverage

ISG welcomes national, regional and international experts. Assignment locations and travel requirements will vary according to client and project needs. Opportunities may be remote, field-based or hybrid.
