30 hp - Towards Trustworthy Agentic Software Development for Automotive C++ Systems
Introduction
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to TRATON/Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their career with their degree project.
Background
Recent advances in Agentic AI have enabled software development workflows where AI-based agents can decompose requirements, implement software, generate tests, perform reviews, and deliver complete code changes. While these capabilities demonstrate significant potential for improving engineering productivity, the automotive industry faces a fundamental challenge: how trust can be established in software produced by such systems. For safety-critical and quality-critical software, organizations must be able to assess whether generated software meets expectations regarding quality, maintainability, robustness, safety, security, traceability, and compliance with engineering standards and processes.
Objective
Investigate methods for assessing and increasing confidence in software developed through agentic AI workflows and develop or evaluate a methodology, framework, or prototype that contributes evidence towards assessing the trustworthiness of generated software in an automotive software context.
Job description
The student will conduct a literature review, analyze factors influencing trust in AI-generated software, investigate suitable assurance mechanisms, quality gates or confidence metrics, develop a prototype or proof-of-concept, and evaluate the approach using representative automotive software development tasks. The exact scope will be defined together with the supervisor and may focus on topics such as software quality, verification and validation, safety, cybersecurity, traceability, explainability, trust metrics, or assurance frameworks.
