Job Description
The Account Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by developing and managing relationships with residential builders, commercial, agricultural customers, engineering firms and architects. This role focuses on generating new business, strengthening existing accounts, and influencing project specifications early in the design stage to position the company as the preferred supplier partner.
The ideal candidate blends technical understanding with strong customer and internal relationship management and proactive sales execution, operating as the face of the company in the field.
Salary Range: $90k - $110k with up to a 20% upside
Location: On site in Calgary with remote work for average 1 day per week
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales Growth:
- Identify, target, and secure new residential, commercial and agricultural construction projects
- Develop and execute a sales plan aligned with company growth targets
- Actively prospect new builders, commercial, farm operations, and project stakeholders
- Track and manage opportunities through all stages of the sales cycle within CRM system(Acumatica)
- Actively manage all outstanding quotes to drive conversion
Product & Solutions Positioning:
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource on the full Timber-Tech Group of Companies portfolio including: Timber-Tech Truss, Timber-Tech Brydon Stairs, and Timber-Tech Building Solutions across the Home Building, Commercial, and Agricultural markets it serves throughout Western Canada
- Clearly communicate the technical and commercial advantages of engineered wood products (floor trusses, roof trusses, LVL, and I-joists) versus traditional dimension lumber.
- Position prefabricated floor cassettes and prebuilt wall systems as solutions that enable faster, more efficient on-site assembly for builders
- Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities across the Group’s three divisions to grow overall account value
- Reinforce the Timber Tech Group of Companies Guiding Principles in all customer-facing activities and communications
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Residential builders (custom, production, and small-volume)
- Agricultural customers (farm owners, contractors, project managers)
- Framers and framing crews
- Architects, designers, and engineers
- Position yourself as a trusted advisor and partner, not just a supplier
- Conduct regular site visits and customer check-ins
- Maintain high customer retention through responsiveness and value delivery
Influence-Based Selling:
- Engage framers and architects early to influence design and supplier selection
- Educate influencers on product advantages, service capabilities, and design efficiencies
- Identify upcoming projects through industry relationships before they formally hit the market
- Leverage relationships to create pull-through demand with builders and agriculture customers
Project Coordination & Communication:
- Collaborate with inside sales and design teams to ensure accurate and timely turnaround on customer quotes
- Communicate project requirements clearly between customers and internal teams
- Monitor project progress from initial inquiry through delivery to ensure they are aligned to customer and internal expectations
- Proactively manage expectations on timelines, changes, and potential issues with customers
Estimating & Technical Sales Support:
- Gather detailed project information to support accurate quoting
- Review estimates with customers and explain scope, pricing, and value
- Support design discussions where needed (non-engineering level)
- Ensure alignment between customer expectations and delivered product
Market Intelligence:
- Stay informed on:
- Local construction activity and housing trends
- Competitor offerings and pricing strategies
- Builder and agricultural market needs
- Provide feedback to leadership on opportunities, risks, and customer insights
Administrative & CRM Management:
- Maintain accurate records of all customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity
- Provide regular sales forecasts and reporting
- Track follow-ups, quotes, and conversion rates
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
- 5+ years of outside sales experience (construction, building materials, or related industry preferred)
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills with both internal and external contacts
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required
Preferred:
- Experienced in truss manufacturing, lumber, and structural building components
- Understanding of residential construction and/or agricultural building practices
- Familiarity with blueprints, building plans, and construction processes
- Experience using CRM systems including Acumatica
