Traffic Analyst

We are seeking a Traffic Analyst to join our multidisciplinary team in the New York City office. In this role, you will contribute to creating vital connections for people and goods through various modes of transportation, including automobiles, automated and electric vehicles, transit systems, rail, aviation, bicycle facilities, and pedestrian networks. Our transportation planning and engineering services are tailored to meet the unique needs of our clients while enhancing mobility and connectivity within the communities we serve.

We are seeking candidates with up to three years of experience in transportation engineering or planning. Stantec supports professional growth through training, collaboration, and in-person teamwork. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office to foster mentorship, strengthen partnerships, and support professional development.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Conduct transportation planning studies, including traffic impact studies, traffic operations analyses, crash analyses, and speed studies.
• Develop Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering (TPTE) components of Environmental Impact Assessments and Planning and Environmental Linkages studies in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
• Plan and execute traffic data collection programs, validate datasets, and analyze results to support project decisions.
• Collaborate with roadway and structural engineers to evaluate and refine roadway designs through iterative design processes.
• Build and apply microsimulation and mesoscopic models, interpret results, and incorporate findings into project recommendations.
• Prepare technical memoranda and comprehensive reports that clearly document methodologies, findings, and recommendations.
• Develop materials for public outreach meetings and translate technical concepts into clear, accessible visuals for public audiences.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Knowledge of TPTE principles and best practices.
• Familiarity with TPTE standards, codes, and requirements.
• Understanding of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) studies and guidelines.
• Experience with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, HCS, and VISSIM.
• Experience with ArcGIS, programming languages, SQL, or Adobe Illustrator is considered an asset.
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Proficiency with standard business software applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings to general audiences.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, Operations Research, or a related field.
• 0-3+ years of professional experience in transportation engineering or planning.
• Engineering in Training (EIT) license, successful completion of the FE exam, or ability to obtain EIT within six months of employment.
