Our dynamic and growing Traffic Engineering Design Group is seeking a full-time Traffic Engineer to support a variety of transportation, traffic, and ITS engineering projects. This position is open in our Chicago, IL office with the opportunity to work in a hybrid model. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in traffic engineering while also supporting the planning, design, and delivery of transportation technology and electrical infrastructure projects. Responsibilities: Mentor and develop engineering staff to support continued growth of the group. Collaborate with internal teams and external clients across multiple disciplines. Develop project deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and utility coordination documentation. Responsibilities may include working as an extension of agency staff in agency offices as part of on-call contracts. Development of conceptual, preliminary, and final transportation designs, including: Traffic signal design Signing and pavement markings design Construction staging and work zone traffic control Vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle detour signing Transit station amenities design Fiber and network design Intersection control evaluations Signal and roundabout feasibility studies Transportation Management Plans Intelligent Transportation Systems Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, traffic/transportation engineering, or a related field. 4+ years of related experience in traffic engineering, traffic studies, ITS, and/or transportation technology. Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record to travel to work sites and meetings as needed. Ability to lead projects, manage technical tasks, and mentor staff. Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CADD platforms such as Open Road Designer or AutoCAD. Experience with traffic engineering software, ITS/CAV systems, and/or transportation technologies, Experience developing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) preferred. Salary Range: $107,100 - $126,000 Compensation is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, job location, internal equity, market analysis, and specific qualifications relevant to the role.
