What We’re Looking For: Michael Baker International is seeking a Traffic Technical Manager to support and grow our Transportation Practice. This leadership role is ideal for a traffic engineering professional with 12+ years of experience who can provide technical expertise, mentor staff, lead complex transportation projects, and help strengthen client relationships across state, county, municipal, and private-sector markets. What You’ll Do: Serve as a technical leader for traffic engineering and transportation projects. Oversee the development and review of traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, traffic studies, safety evaluations, and transportation analyses. Provide quality assurance and technical oversight to ensure compliance with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, MUTCD, and local agency standards. Lead multidisciplinary project coordination, support project delivery, and assist with staffing and resource planning. Mentor and develop engineering staff while promoting technical excellence and best practices. Build and maintain client relationships, support business development efforts, and contribute to strategic growth initiatives. What You Need to Succeed: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois, or ability to obtain shortly after hire. PTOE preferred 12+ years of progressive traffic and transportation engineering experience. Strong experience delivering projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, counties, municipalities, and other public-sector clients. Demonstrated expertise in traffic operations, traffic signal design, signing and pavement marking, maintenance of traffic, traffic studies, and safety analysis. Experience leading technical teams, mentoring staff, and providing quality reviews. Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, and other traffic engineering software. Excellent communication, leadership, project management, and client relationship skills. Compensation The approximate compensation range for this position is $115,000 to $187,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
