Lancashire County Council's (LCC's) Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is looking to recruit a 3rd year Trainee Educational Psychologist (TEP) with a current place on a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology course, due to qualify in Summer 2027.

We comprise of three dynamic, friendly and supportive teams of educational psychologists, who are committed to optimising outcomes for children and young people and providing support and help to those who need it. The successful candidate would be able to express a preference for the team in which they would like to be based, which is likely to be advantageous to applicants, given the large geographical area of Lancashire.

We are looking for TEPs who are passionate about applying psychology across a range of contexts. We have a new, exciting and evolving Service offer which has a community psychology lens and a focus on group consultation-led reflection to support systemic change. All EPs, including TEPs, are allocated a district of schools, whereby you will be creative in developing workshops with colleagues on topics relevant to the needs of your district. You will need to utilise your consultation skills to support settings to review practice and consider implementation of new approaches.

You will also be responsible for providing psychological services which promote educational outcomes and emotional well-being, which may include delivery of emotional literacy support assistant training (ELSA). The EPS work with the Virtual School Team, where EPs use psychological frameworks to facilitate problem solving discussions and are developing an offer within Family Hubs to support the Best Start in Life agenda working with children and their families during those formative years. As we increase service capacity, the EPS is in the process of developing packages of support with schools and other partners, with opportunities to develop our barriers to education support as well as work with secondary schools to support inclusion for neurodiverse young people. EPs and TEPs are able to engage in areas of work that are of particular interest to them and are able to utilise/develop specialist knowledge within such areas. Our working groups enable EPs to utilities their wide range of research interests, e.g. communication and technology, post 16, and social, emotional and mental health. These working groups also support wider local authority priorities.

LCC EPS has a generous allocation of time for CPD which includes:

  • Individual and peer reflective supervision

  • Monthly CPD Service Days in which all three EP teams come together with a focus on supporting the CPD needs of the EPS as a whole and also on service development

  • The opportunity to become involved in the internal CPD planning group

  • The opportunity to become a member of the North-West EP CPD Conference steering group which plans the annual North-West EP CPD Conference that is successfully hosted by in Lancashire.

As a member of our service, you will benefit from:

  • Excellent ICT support to enable remote/hybrid working

  • Flexible working options and our commitment to supporting health and well-being

  • A supportive and caring leadership team

Closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 15th November 2026 and interviews will be held on Thursday 26th November 2026.

Please ensure you have uploaded and attached your supporting statement to evidence how you meet the criteria for the role. The panel may be unable to shortlist you for interview without this evidence.
