Description

Doré Rothberg Law, P.C. is seeking an experienced Transactional Business and Oil & Gas Attorney for our office in Houston’s Energy Corridor. This is not a document-review job with a shareholder between you and the client. Our Transactional Attorneys talk to clients, run title, structure and close deals. Title work is particularly relevant to this position.

Carl Doré started this firm in 1990 as a sole practitioner. Today, we number about 30 people across our offices in Houston and Fort Worth, and most of our work still arrives by referral. Our firm’s core values are problem-solving, innovation, trust, diversity, responsiveness, and community.

Required Experience: 3-6 years. This is not an entry-level role.
Billing Hour Requirements: 1,440 minimum, with a marketing hour allowance
Schedule: Full time (M-F 8:30-5:30); Hybrid; three days in office
Compensation: $105,000 – 120,000, or commensurate with experience

The Work

You will handle Business Transactions: purchase and sale of businesses, asset and equity deals, winding up, loan documentation and restructuring; Corporate Governance: entity formation, operating and shareholder agreements, and the standing-counsel call that starts with “can we do this?”; Real Estate and Title: examination and curative work; Oil and Gas: leases and mineral title tied to leases and lien claims on the service company and landowner side; Mineral and M&M Liens under Texas Property Code chapters 53 and 56; Contracts, including Master Service Agreement review for oilfield service companies.

DRL deeply values teamwork and flexibility. If you are interested in other areas of the firm such as litigation, bankruptcy, estate planning, probate, trusts, etc., we're open to discussing how those areas could fit in your portfolio.

Our Systems

Centerbase, NetDocuments, Microsoft 365, WealthCounsel, and TXDocs. Additionally, we are integrating Claude across the firm as an (optional) tool. You do not need prior experience with any of these systems, but you must have the willingness to learn software, not fight it.

This Job Might Be for You If

  • You read a title chain the way other people read a novel.
  • You would rather find a way to close the deal than write a memo explaining why it can’t happen.
  • You are confident telling a business owner something they don’t want to hear, in plain English, without making it a lecture.
  • You want clients, not assignments. We will put you in front of them.
  • You want to be home for dinner, and you believe the work you deliver earns it.

This Job is Probably Not for You If

  • You yell at staff or believe your bar card makes you the smartest person in the room. We have fired people over this.
  • You want someone to hand you a closing checklist and tell you which blank to fill.
  • Detail work bores you. Title is detail work. So are liens.

What We’re Looking For

JD from an accredited law school, admission in good standing to the State Bar of Texas, and 3-6 years of transactional practice are required. Admission in another state is a plus (especially Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Utah), given how much of our lien work crosses state lines.

Additionally, drafting skills you stand behind, history and confidence with direct client contact, title examination, oil and gas lease review, Texas lien work, MSA review, or loan documentation all count for a lot, and we weigh demonstrated proficiency as heavily as years.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $105,000 - $120,000
  • Quarterly bonuses across four tracks: hours, origination, team goals, and performance
  • 401(k) with a 6% firm match
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer provided short-term disability & life
  • Paid time off and firm holidays
  • Paralegal and administrative support
  • Firm covered CLE, bar dues, and professional development
  • A real path to shareholder for the right attorney
  • If you have portable business, we will work with you to ensure you get origination credit

Plenty of firms talk about culture. In 2026 we hit a milestone worth marking, so we took every team member and a guest on a cruise. All of them.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Please send a resume, cover letter, and a short writing or drafting sample that reflects your own work to jhall@dorelaw.com and bdore@dorelaw.com. In your cover letter, tell us about a transaction or title problem you solved; the one where the answer wasn’t obvious and you found it, not the biggest deal you touched. Skip this step and you will not be in the running. Address your cover letter to:

Joyce Hall, HR Coordinator
