Ready to shape the future of resilient communities?

We are seeking a Project Scheduler to support a multi-billion-dollar electric transmission capital program in the Houston region. This position is hybrid and must be local to our Houston office.

The Project Scheduler owns schedule development and schedule integrity for assigned transmission and substation projects within a large capital program. Working with full independence, this role builds and maintains resource-loaded Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules in Primavera P6, integrates engineering, procurement, outage, construction, and energization sequences into a coherent plan, reviews EPC contractor schedules for logic and feasibility, and translates schedule data into the variance analysis and recovery options project leadership needs to act.

What You’ll Do:

Portfolio Performance Monitoring & Schedule Management

  • Independently develop, baseline, and maintain detailed Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules in Primavera P6 and MS Project for assigned transmission line and substation projects, selecting logic and structure appropriate to the project rather than relying on templates
  • Integrate engineering milestones, permitting and regulatory approvals, long-lead equipment procurement, material deliveries, outage windows, construction sequences, testing, commissioning, and energization into a single defensible plan
  • Establish and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), activity coding, calendars, constraints, milestones, and resource assignments to program standards so schedules can be rolled up across the portfolio
  • Perform critical path and near-critical path analysis, total and free float analysis, variance analysis, earned value, what-if scenarios, time-impact analysis, and recovery scheduling
  • Monitor float consumption and distinguish legitimate use from deterioration caused by delay, resequencing, rework or late decisions
  • Produce look-ahead schedules, schedule narratives, progress S-curves, resource histograms, milestone reports and executive dashboards on the program reporting calendar
  • Collect and validate progress from project managers, engineers, EPC contractors and construction teams, challenging status that is not supported by field evidence

Contractor Schedule Review & Governance

  • Assess schedule quality against defined metrics, open ends, negative float, excessive lags, constraint misuse, out-of-sequence progress, and document deficiencies for resolution
  • Require and evaluate narrative justification for material movement in float, logic, forecast dates, or critical-path activities
  • Support development and continuous improvement of schedule governance, including the EPC schedule specification, scheduling procedures and KPI definitions
  • Evaluate schedule impacts of change orders, scope changes and delay claims, and support mitigation and recovery planning

Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Communicate schedule status, variance and forecast directly to owner project managers and program leadership, clearly, concisely and with a recommendation rather than raw data
  • Lead schedule update and review meetings with project
  • Present schedule performance in project, program, and milestone-readiness reviews, internally among the project team
  • Coordinate schedule information flow between discipline leads, procurement, construction management, and the project manager to maintain a single credible view of status

Risk Identification & Escalation

  • Identify emerging schedule risk, constraint conflicts, long-lead slippage, outage window exposure, permitting dependencies, resource shortfalls, and escalate with impact analysis, alternatives, and a recommended action
  • Escalate against defined thresholds and timeframes rather than waiting for a milestone to be missed
  • Maintain schedule assumptions, mitigation commitments, and recovery actions in the program risk and decision records, and track them to closure

People & Team Development

  • Mentor early career staff on P6 practice, schedule quality, and client communication
  • Contribute to onboarding and training of controls staff joining the program

What You’ll Bring:

  • Associate degree
  • 5+ years of project scheduling and/or project controls experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience using Primavera P6 and MS Project
  • Proven ability to develop, baseline, update, maintain, and analyze Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules for large capital projects
  • Experience supporting major energy infrastructure projects
  • Experience with project scheduling and control, document control, and management, and use of ProCore or similar software
  • Experience with portfolio analytics and reporting
  • Experience with risk assessment and mitigation planning
  • Strong understanding of construction sequences, long-lead equipment procurement, utility outage coordination, testing, commissioning, and energization activities
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field
  • Experience supporting an Owner's Engineer, owner's representative, or utility capital program environment
  • Experience reviewing, validating, and challenging EPC contractor schedules
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management (EVM) and Time Impact Analysis (TIA)
  • Experience using Power BI or similar reporting and dashboard platforms
  • Working knowledge of SAP, Unifier, or comparable ERP/project management systems.
  • Use of Copilot tool development
  • Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), or AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP)
