About ZOVU
Restaurants have enough on their plate. Their software should make life easier.
At ZOVU, we're building the Operating System for the modern restaurant. Our vision is simple: one connected experience for Point of Sale, loyalty, reservations, staff tools and a customer app.
Our partnership model is built around a transaction margin on sales, so our growth is tied to the restaurants we serve.
We're an early-stage, fully remote startup with big ambitions and plenty to build. If you enjoy turning a complicated idea into something that feels effortless to use, you'll feel at home here.
The Role
We're looking for an ambitious UI/UX Design Intern with a strong eye for UI to help bring the ZOVU experience to life.
If you find yourself adjusting spacing until a screen finally feels right, we'd love to see your work.
You'll design polished screens and connected user flows in Figma, working closely with founders and developers. Your work could help a restaurant owner understand their business, a staff member move through a busy shift, or a guest discover their next favourite restaurant.
Our style is calm, minimal and considered: clear typography, generous whitespace, precise alignment and restrained colour. Your challenge is to carry that feeling consistently across the product.
You'll turn agreed product requirements into complete flows, including relevant empty, loading, error and confirmation states. You'll use reusable components, refine designs after feedback and prepare organised files for developer handoff.
What Excites You
- Building Something from the Ground Up: You enjoy turning ideas into complete flows and seeing a product take shape.
- Making Complexity Feel Simple: You like finding a clear way through a screen full of requirements.
- Room to Take Ownership: You enjoy the flexibility of remote work, with clear priorities and responsibility for your progress.
- Getting the Details Right: You care about how the whole experience fits together, from the first screen to the last small interaction.
What Excites Us
- Experience That Shows: You've already designed complete user flows through an internship, freelance work, a product team or substantial university or personal projects. You can walk us through your decisions and how the work developed.
- A Strong Eye for UI: Your work shows care for typography, spacing, hierarchy and consistency. You can adapt to ZOVU's visual direction and help extend it.
- Confidence in Figma: You've used Auto Layout, reusable components and variants across multiple connected screens. Your files are organised so someone else can pick them up and understand them.
- From Feedback to Handoff: You've refined designs after input from users, teammates or clients. Experience preparing developer handoffs or working directly with developers is a strong plus.
- A Portfolio We Can Explore: Show us at least two projects with finished product screens, explain your contribution and tell us whether the work was a concept or released product.
- Momentum with Care: You enjoy building connected screens efficiently, reusing components and keeping quality consistent as a flow grows.
- Curiosity and Communication: You ask useful questions, welcome feedback and keep the team informed. You can explain your decisions and collaborate in English.
Bonus points: You've worked on SaaS, dashboards, mobile apps or restaurant technology. Relevant design work within a startup or an established product team is especially welcome.
Internship Details & Growth
This is a hands-on internship where you'll develop your product design skills through practical work, feedback and collaboration with founders and developers.
- Duration: Three months.
- 100% Remote: Collaborate with us from your own workspace.
- Time Zones: No time-zone overlap is required. Clear communication and regular progress updates are important.
- Availability: Ideally 32 hours per week. We may consider 20 hours for an exceptionally strong fit.
- Start: As soon as possible; tell us your earliest available date.
- Future Opportunities: As ZOVU develops, further opportunities may become available depending on performance, mutual fit, team needs and budget. A permanent role is not guaranteed.
The Good Stuff!
- A Direct Connection to the Team: Discuss ideas and design decisions with founders and developers.
- Work with a Clear Purpose: Help make everyday restaurant tasks easier.
- Space to Grow: Develop your craft through product challenges, iteration and feedback.
Life at ZOVU
We're a remote team brought together by a shared ambition: making restaurant software feel connected and easy to use.
We value initiative, honest communication and people who care about the details. Bring your ideas, ask questions and help us make the next version better.
Ready to make an impact?
We'd love to see what you can bring to ZOVU.
Send your CV and portfolio to HR@zovuhq.com, including:
- Two relevant projects, your contribution and whether each is a concept or released work.
- A short answer: which project best demonstrates your ability to create calm, minimal and consistent UI, and why?
- Your earliest start date, weekly availability and time zone.
- Any university placement requirements.
Please make sure we can view your finished UI screens. For password-protected work, include access details or offer a private walkthrough.
