About Infinite Lambda
Infinite Lambda is a global data and AI consultancy on a mission to make innovation accessible. We help organisations build the data foundations and business context they need for enterprise AI to actually work: from modern data platforms to agentic enablement and our software solution, Flowline.
We are a Certified B Corporation, with 7 legal entities around the world, and are proud to nurture a workplace where decent human beings can do their best work. Curiosity is our default setting, autonomy is non-negotiable, and impact is the whole point.
The role
As our Fractional Legal Counsel, you will be the senior legal partner to our COO, Exec team, and Board. In a fractional capacity, you will be part of the team, close to the people who win and deliver the work, and trusted to make the calls that keep us keep moving.
We need someone who can start adding value from their first week. You will handle our most important contracts and legal questions across EMEA, the Americas, and APAC, and set up the templates, playbooks, and processes that let the business handle routine matters with confidence when you are not there.
Being qualified in both England & Wales and the US means you can cover our two largest legal systems directly and coordinate local counsel everywhere else.
You will report to the COO and work closely with our CFO and General Managers, as many of our legal questions (commercial terms, liability, entity structure and governance) sit at the intersection of legal, finance, and operations. As the business grows, you will also help us decide what our long-term legal function should look like.
What you will own
This role spans four pillars. As the role is fractional, focus matters a lot: you will prioritise what only a senior lawyer can do, bring in external support where it makes sense, and build the tools that let the business help itself.
1. Commercial contracting & client advice
Reviewing and negotiating our priority client agreements: MSAs, SOWs and framework agreements under English and US law
Drafting key partner, vendor, and supplier agreements
Advising clients and internal teams on cross-border matters across EMEA, the Americas, and APAC
Setting clear positions on liability, IP ownership, and data terms, so deals keep moving
2. Governance, risk & compliance
Flagging the legal risks that matter most and recommending priorities to the COO and Exec team;
Oversight of corporate governance and entity matters across our 7 legal entities, working with local advisers;
Supporting the Exec team and board matters when legal input is needed;
Keeping our compliance posture current, including anti-bribery, sanctions, and export controls.
3. Data, AI & intellectual property
Data protection and privacy across the UK, EU and US, including DPAs and international transfers;
Guidance on AI regulation, including the EU AI Act, as it applies to our services;
Protecting our intellectual property, including our flagship product, Flowline.
4. Building the legal foundations
Contract templates, negotiation playbooks and approval rules for routine matters;
A simple intake and tracking process so everyone knows what is in progress;
Selecting and managing external counsel for specialist or local-law work, within budget;
Helping shape the scope of a future full-time legal hire if and when we need one.
Who you are
We are not looking for a particular CV but for a particular kind of lawyer, namely senior, commercial, honest, and genuinely interested in the work our teams do.
Experience that matters
Qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales and the US (preferrably), with both qualifications current and in good standing;
7+ years' PQE, with training at a leading law firm and in-house experience, ideally in technology, data, AI or professional services;
A track record of working fractionally, as an interim, or as a consultant lawyer, and of making an impact quickly;
Strong commercial contracting experience, especially services, technology and SaaS agreements;
Experience advising on cross-border matters across the UK, EU, and US, with exposure to APAC a plus;
Working knowledge of data protection, IP, and emerging AI regulation;
Experience setting up legal processes or being a company's first legal adviser;
Your own professional indemnity insurance, or cover through your platform or consultancy.
Your approach
You prioritise ruthlessly and are clear about what can wait;
You give clear answers and a recommendation, not a list of risks;
You build trust with clients, colleagues and leadership because you are straight with them;
You leave things better documented than you found them, so the business is never stuck waiting for you;
You bring rigour without bureaucracy. Life is too short for red tape;
You are aligned with our company values. This matters to us.
How the engagement works
10 days a month with flexibility around specific working hours and with reasonable availability for urgent matters outside of those;
A shared request channel and a simple tracker so priorities are visible to everyone;
A regular check-in with the COO to review workload, priorities and whether the agreed working days still fit;
Additional days agreed in advance, at the same day rate.
Why work with us
Being your true self: show up as you are. We work with people for character, not conformity;
Practising innovation: front-row seat to the rapid evolution of data and AI, and the legal questions that come with it;
Living autonomously: remote-first, with flexibility on how you structure your days;
Real influence: a senior voice in a growing global business, working directly with the COO and Exec team.
We are a Certified B Corporation. That means we measure ourselves not just by what we deliver, but by how we deliver it because of our people, our clients, our communities, and the environment.
Our Legal Counsel will help make sure that commitment is reflected in how we contract and govern ourselves.
The practicalities
Engagement: Fractional, initial term of 12 months with the option to extend;
Contract: Consultancy agreement, directly, through your own company, or through a fractional legal platform; IR35 status assessed before contracting;
Location: Remote-first / UK / US;
Reports to: COO;
Key partnerships: CEO, CTO, CFO, and other Exec team members; General Managers, Sales and Partnership leads, Head of People / HR;
Compensation: competitive day rate.
