US Trade Compliance Manager – HTS Classification & U.S. Customs Compliance Location: Remote opportunity for candidates who are willing to travel to Garner, NC a few times per quarter ​ Job Summary We are seeking a US Trade Compliance Manager – HTS Classification & U.S. Customs Compliance for a global manufacturing company based in North Carolina. This is a remote opportunity for candidates who are willing to travel to Garner, North Carolina a few times per quarter for in-person meetings, business reviews, and cross-functional collaboration. This role will be responsible for supporting and strengthening North America trade compliance activities, with a strong focus on U.S. customs compliance, HTS classification, country of origin, customs entry review, broker coordination, tariff monitoring, export controls, internal compliance procedures, and regulatory changes affecting imported products. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience interpreting U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements and applying trade compliance processes within a manufacturing, industrial, engineered products, electrical components, metal components, or other product-based environment. Education Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. Licensed Customs Broker certification is preferred. Additional training or certification in trade compliance, import/export regulations, customs brokerage, or international trade is a plus. Requirements Minimum of 8 years of experience in customs compliance, trade compliance, import/export operations, customs brokerage, or international trade compliance. Strong background in U.S. import/export compliance and U.S. customs regulations. Hands-on experience with HTS classification, country of origin determination, customs entries, and trade documentation. Ability to interpret and apply CBP regulations, including tariff classification, customs valuation, admissibility, duty requirements, and import recordkeeping. Experience reviewing or auditing customs entries to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper duty treatment. Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, logistics teams, suppliers, manufacturing plants, and internal business partners. Ability to gather, validate, and document product information when BOMs, engineering details, supplier documentation, or material data are incomplete. Background in manufacturing, industrial products, engineered components, automotive, aerospace, electronics, electrical components, metal components, die casting, or other product-based environments is strongly preferred. Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Commercial teams, customs brokers, suppliers, customers, and government agencies. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong communication, follow-up, and accountability. Willingness to travel to Garner, NC a few times per quarter for in-person meetings and collaboration. Preferred Qualifications Licensed Customs Broker certification. USMCA qualification and free trade agreement compliance experience. Export controls, ECCN, BIS, OFAC, sanctions, and restricted-party compliance experience. SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, or similar ERP experience. Ocean import entry background; air import experience is a plus. Experience developing or improving trade compliance SOPs, audit processes, internal controls, corrective actions, and recordkeeping procedures. Knowledge Strong understanding of customs valuation, Incoterms, duty requirements, admissibility, and import/export documentation. Knowledge of Section 232, Section 301, Chapter 99, antidumping duties, countervailing duties, sanctions, tariffs, and regulatory changes affecting international trade. Ability to interpret product descriptions, technical documents, BOMs, engineering drawings, material composition, and supplier data to support accurate classification decisions. Understanding of import recordkeeping, customs entry documentation, broker instructions, retention requirements, and compliance controls. Familiarity with ERP material master data related to trade compliance fields, including HTS, country of origin, ECCN, and customs documentation. Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy in classification, documentation, and compliance processes. Analytical thinking with the ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to business operations. Strong problem-solving skills to resolve customs issues, broker questions, shipment delays, documentation gaps, and compliance concerns. High integrity and accountability when managing trade compliance risk. Ability to proactively obtain missing information from suppliers, manufacturing plants, Engineering, and internal stakeholders. Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to train and guide internal teams. Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment. Adaptability to changing government regulations, tariff updates, customs priorities, and business needs. Responsibilities Lead and support North America trade compliance activities, with a strong focus on U.S. import/export compliance. Ensure accurate HTS classification, country of origin, ECCN, customs documentation, and ERP trade compliance data. Review and audit customs entries and import/export records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper duty treatment. Work with customs brokers, freight forwarders, suppliers, manufacturing plants, and internal teams to resolve classification, documentation, clearance, and entry discrepancies. Interpret product descriptions, BOMs, technical documentation, engineering drawings, and material data to support accurate classification and country of origin decisions. Monitor regulatory changes related to tariffs, Section 232, Section 301, Chapter 99, sanctions, export controls, antidumping/countervailing duties, and free trade agreements. Support USMCA qualification, certificates of origin, supplier documentation, and ongoing free trade agreement compliance. Establish and improve internal controls, compliance procedures, audit processes, corrective actions, and recordkeeping practices to reduce customs and regulatory risk. Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Commercial teams, customs brokers, suppliers, customers, and government agencies to support accurate trade compliance decisions. Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on customs compliance requirements, documentation standards, classification processes, and regulatory updates.
