User Researcher / Senior User Researcher

Salary: Up to £72,000 (Mid-Level) / £82,000 (Senior) + Benefits

Active SC Clearance Essential – Non-Negotiable

Stealth IT Consulting is supporting a leading global digital consultancy that is expanding its User-Centred Design (UCD) team. We are looking for both mid-level and senior User Researchers to make an impact across major digital transformation programmes, working with clients across the public and private sectors.

This is an opportunity to develop and grow your career while working on challenging projects with major organisations, including Home Office, DEFRA, Dfe, DWP, and more. You will champion user-centred and inclusive design practices throughout project lifecycles, ensuring products and services meet the needs of a diverse range of users. You will lead research activities, uncover meaningful user insights and use your findings to influence the design and development of digital products and services.

Level of experience

There are opportunities at both mid-level and senior level:

  • User Researcher (Mid-Level): Looking for established User Researchers with hands-on experience planning and conducting research, applying a range of behavioural and attitudinal methods, and translating findings into actionable insights that influence product and service design.
  • Senior User Researcher: Candidates must have previously operated in a senior research position or demonstrate clear experience carrying out senior-level responsibilities. This includes leading research strategy and activities, advising and influencing stakeholders, facilitating multidisciplinary teams, providing direction to other researchers and ensuring research insights shape wider design and delivery decisions. This is not an opportunity for someone looking to make their first step into a senior position.

Active SC clearance is an absolute requirement for both levels. Candidates must currently hold valid Security Check clearance. SC eligibility alone will not be sufficient.

Working arrangements and locations

  • Predominantly remote working.
  • Occasional client visits, typically 2–3 times per month, depending on project requirements.
  • Locations: London, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow.

Essential requirements

  • Hands-on experience leading user research, using behavioural and attitudinal methods and knowing when to apply them appropriately.
  • Experience across multiple phases of a product or service lifecycle, from discovery and exploration through to design and delivery.
  • Experience working with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and applying GDS design principles.
  • Strong storytelling, communication, stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary, agile teams, leading user research and influencing product or service design through research insights.
  • Familiarity with using prototypes to test hypotheses, challenge assumptions and validate user journeys.
  • Understanding of a range of tools and practices for conducting both in-person and remote research.

Salary and package

  • Mid-Level User Researcher: Up to £72,000.
  • Senior User Researcher: Up to £82,000.
  • Final salary will depend on the combination of experience, breadth of skills, seniority and individual salary expectations.
