Validation & Test Automation Engineer
£50,000 + Benefits
Primarily site-based - Scope for hybrid working after probation
Build the automation. Shape the testing. See the difference in the product.
Can you use Python and Bash to make physical hardware testing faster, smarter and more reliable?
Our client develops specialist technology for the global broadcast industry. As its product range and customer demand grow, it needs an experienced engineer to take ownership of validation and move a largely manual testing environment towards automated, repeatable testing.
You’ll design the frameworks, connect the test equipment and build the pipelines that give engineering teams a clearer picture of product performance and quality. With scope to influence the tools, methods and priorities, this is an opportunity to put your ideas into practice and see them become part of how the business works.
Working closely with software, firmware and hardware engineers, you’ll:
- Design and implement validation procedures for physical hardware products.
- Build automated test frameworks and scripts using Python and Bash.
- Integrate laboratory equipment into automated workflows through APIs and other interfaces.
- Develop and maintain test pipelines and supporting infrastructure.
- Investigate failures, identify root causes and turn test results into useful performance insights.
- Document your work and help shape the business’s approach to testing as it grows.
You might come from a validation, test or automation engineering background. What matters is practical experience testing physical hardware and the ability to build effective automated solutions.
Skills & Experience
- Strong Python and Bash scripting skills, with experience working in Linux.
- Experience developing automated test frameworks and pipelines.
- Confidence controlling or communicating with hardware programmatically.
- A structured approach to troubleshooting, documentation and version control.
- The initiative to take a technical problem from investigation through to a working solution.
- Experience with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools, electronics, broadcast technology, AI-assisted testing or mentoring colleagues would be welcome.
You’ll have ownership of a function that directly influences product quality and development efficiency. Your work will help engineers spot problems earlier, reduce repetitive manual testing and make better use of test data.
You’ll also work across a varied range of specialist broadcast products, alongside engineers spanning software, firmware and hardware.
The role is primarily site-based because it involves specialist laboratory equipment. After probation, there is scope for hybrid working where the work allows, particularly as automated systems become established.
