Description

The Application Developer develops business software solutions through object and data modeling, database design, programming, quality assurance, and implementation support.

Overview: maintain and organize contract manual tasks into an automated method to create functional database systems. Create advanced database reports, queries, tables, screens, visual basic code, etc. Using MS Access, SQL Server, IBM Showcase, Visual Basic, etc. tools and techniques to visualize data in easy-to-understand formats, such as screens, diagrams and graphs. Preparing reports and presenting these to management. Communicating with stakeholders to understand data content and business requirements.

Skills: MS ACCESS Database, MS EXCEL, MS SQL SERVER, VISUAL BASIC.

Helpful to have experience in SQL SERVER SSIS and SSRS, coding in Visual Studio and IBM Showcase queries.

Experience: 2 or more years’ experience creating functional databases, ability to trouble shoot code issues in Visual Basic and SQL. Experience in full project cycle planning and documentation.

Education/Experience

- 4 years experience in application development.

- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or equivalent IT knowledge/experience.

- Demonstrated understanding of object-oriented design and programming techniques.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders, including leadership.

- Demonstrated resourcefulness in the software development process and creative problem solving skills.

- History of balancing multiple priorities simultaneously with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines.

- Working knowledge in all stages of the software development life cycle: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and implementation.

- Experience in creating applications using technologies such as C#, ASP.NET, ASP, Web Services, XML, SQL Server.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Work with business teams to clarify requirements and business needs.

- Collaborate with other developers and architects to determine optimal solution architecture, efficiency, maintainability, and scalability.

- Develop high-level system narratives, storyboards, and user interface prototypes.

- Develop system test plans, ensure software quality assurance (SQA) standards are achieved, and validate that business goals are accomplished.

- Develop applications to CDW coding standards and quality.

- Complete projects/tasks on a timely basis, according to commitments made to stakeholders and management

- Report project/task status to the appropriate Manager on a weekly basis (at minimum).

- Ensure stakeholders are responded to in a timely and professional manner. Foster open lines of communication with all parties.

- Mentor/train junior team members.

This team supports approximately 600 to 700 coworkers by delivering specialized reporting solutions for new customer engagements and contract-related initiatives. They are seeking a Database Administrator/Developer with strong experience in Microsoft Access database development, VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), SQL Server, and SQL query development.

The individual will partner directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, develop database solutions, and provide ongoing support for VBA-driven applications. Working within a small team of 3 to 4 professionals, this person will be responsible for designing and building databases that meet the specific needs of sales and business teams, while also maintaining and enhancing existing solutions.

A key focus of the role is automating reporting processes and improving data accessibility. The ideal candidate will have experience integrating data from multiple SQL Server environments and other backend data sources, creating complex SQL queries, and developing consolidated reports that combine information from various systems into a single, user-friendly output. Experience managing data relationships, report automation, and end-to-end database solutions is highly desired.

This is a Contract position based out of Vernon Hills, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
