As an Oncology Consultant, you will play a key role in assisting veterinary practitioners with diagnostic test selection, interpretation of laboratory results and case management, including treatment options.
Are you a Board-Certified Veterinary Oncologist (ECVIM-CA Oncology or ACVIM Oncology) with a good knowledge of the European veterinary landscape, fluent in German? Would you enjoy working from home, providing expert phone consultations to veterinary colleagues in practice? If so, we would love to hear from you. Apply today and become part of our collaborative, international team.
This is a remote role and can be based in any European country where IDEXX has a subsidiary.
Why this role matters:
IDEXX is expanding its Global Medical Consulting team and is looking for a Veterinary Oncologist to support our customers across Europe. The Medical Consulting Team at IDEXX is dedicated to enhancing veterinary care through high-quality diagnostic support. We place a strong emphasis on peer-to-peer education and on building trusted relationships with our colleagues in practice. Our veterinary team collaborates closely with our commercial and laboratory teams to deliver accurate, practical and clinically relevant diagnostic solutions.
In this role:
- You will provide telephone consultations to veterinary professionals on oncology cases in dogs and cats, advising on diagnostic test selection, result interpretation, and treatment and management options. Consultations will be primarily in German and English.
- You will be knowledgeable about the tests offered by IDEXX, with a particular focus on oncologic disease, including histopathology and cytology reports, Cancer DX, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and PARR. You will guide customers on appropriate sample collection, clinical utility and interpretation of each test.
- You will be familiar with IDEXX in-house diagnostic tests (for example Catalyst and ProCyte analysers) and with reference laboratory testing and its availability across different markets.
- You will maintain and develop your medical knowledge through self-directed learning, attendance at scientific meetings, internal continuing education and regular review of current literature in veterinary oncology.
- You will be accessible for customer consultations during regular working hours, and record consultations in our Customer Relationship Management system.
- You may be asked to write or review newsletter articles, diagnostic or service updates, and marketing, sales or educational material, and to take part in IDEXX educational and organisational meetings.
What you need to succeed:
- Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA, Oncology) or the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM, Oncology). Candidates with extensive clinical oncology experience who are board-eligible will also be considered.
- Fluency in German and English, spoken and written, is required.
- Additional languages are an advantage and highly valued in this international company.
- Familiarity with veterinary oncology practice, clinical guidelines and the regulatory and referral environment in Europe, especially German-speaking markets (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).
- A current veterinary license or registration in good standing in a European country, and the right to work in that country.
- A collaborative, service-oriented approach, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and clinical reasoning skills.
- The ability to learn and thrive in a rapidly changing remote work environment.
What you can expect from us:
- This is a home-based role. You will need a dedicated, quiet office space, computer literacy and a reliable high-speed internet connection.
- Consultation service hours will be within regular European working hours, and some flexibility within those hours is expected.
- You will receive onboarding and training on IDEXX products, reference laboratory diagnostics and specialty tests, including virtual training and occasional travel to a reference laboratory, training sessions or scientific meetings.
When you join IDEXX, you will find yourself in a challenging but exciting environment where you are given the opportunity to be yourself, innovate and grow.
- A successful team that is proud of its work and motivated by a unified purpose of helping others.
- Colleagues who are inspiring, open and the best in their operating space.
- A team of over 10,000 employees worldwide, with many opportunities for learning, personal growth and career expansion.
- The chance to be part of a double-digit growth company in a fast-growing market, leading the way with innovative products and services and a strong focus on customers.
