Job Responsibilities

  • Research and monitor changes to global privacy laws, including U.S. state laws governing data brokers, targeted advertising, and consumer health data. Account for differences in terminology, interpretation, and enforcement across jurisdictions.
  • Distill complex legal and business requirements and implement practical solutions within challenging parameters, including short timelines, difficult vendors, and multiple internal stakeholders.
  • Drive best practices and continuous improvement across Circana’s global privacy program, including privacy notices, consent, individual rights, cross-border data transfers, and impact assessments.
  • Protect Circana and support business growth by independently leading complex negotiations involving privacy, information security, and risk-allocation terms in commercial contracts.
  • Build privacy awareness through enterprise-wide training and targeted presentations addressing the issues most relevant to specific functions and teams.
  • Manage privacy registrations with government bodies globally.
  • Partner with Works Councils on privacy matters.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of data privacy experience, including experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Law degree or equivalent and admission to practice in the U.S.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. privacy laws, which will be the primary focus of the role, and strong knowledge of EU privacy law.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 27701 or comparable privacy frameworks, with working knowledge of adjacent frameworks such as ISO 27001.
  • Demonstrated change management experience, including influencing senior leaders across functions and geographies and implementing efficient, sustainable processes and tools.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in novel and ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely and respond effectively to stakeholder questions and challenges.
  • Ability to independently manage difficult conversations with Circana and client leaders and deliver candid, credible feedback.
  • Experience strengthening privacy awareness and accountability across large, global organizations.
  • Track record of using approved AI tools to improve effectiveness and productivity.
  • Experience managing outside counsel for value, quality, and accountability.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating privacy, information security, and risk-allocation terms on behalf of a data processor with limited bargaining power.

Additional Relevant Experience

  • Additional experience in one or both of the following areas is preferred:
  • AI regulation and governance, including the EU AI Act.
  • Information governance, including data mapping and records retention.
