Job Summary:

The Vice President of OSP Construction position is a critical leadership role that oversees Outside Plant Construction and requires an experienced leader with strong technical knowledge in large scale fiber network construction, and engineering.

What you will be doing:

• Deliver safe, high-quality construction projects throughout the country.
• Manage multiple Project Managers who lead project teams executing high volume, multi-million dollar FTTH / FTTP projects on-time and within budget.
• Determine the fundamental design and delivery schedule of city-wide FTTH networks.
• Support business objectives through operational procedures that encompass the use of technology to improve process and accuracy, compliance with regulations, and ensuring accurate reporting.
• Ensure high quality work and a strict adherence to safety standards while continuously improving current systems and work processes to deliver exceptional results while maintaining the highest customer service objectives.
• Maintain strategic relationships with multiple internal departments as well as external organizations such as jurisdictional authorities, pole owners, and supporting contractor community who performs work for their projects.
• Develop and implement, jointly with other VPs, a strategic vision for the OSP Construction organization and provide the leadership and subject matter expertise to assure the consistent execution of this vision.
• Establish strong relationships across the organization with key partners and constituents, specifically Engineering/Design, Field Operations, Sales/Marketing, Business Development and Real Estate/Legal, to meet the company’s goals and objectives.
• Enhance and ensure a culture of safety and ethical compliance across a large geographically diverse field force.
• Oversee the management and implementation of large-scale FTTP / FTTH projects.
• Maintain and enhance a strong customer service-oriented environment for both internal and external customers, focused on problem avoidance and rapid response and resolution.
• Ensure full compliance with all federal, state and municipal regulations.
• Evaluate existing processes and tools used in the field and develop, jointly with OSP VP group, improvements to maximize operational efficiency/effectiveness and quality while enhancing the customer experience.
• Implement improved processes, which utilize technology, to improve jobs, processes, training, tools and overall work quality
• Executive presence with which to interact and influence at all levels of the organization.
• Remains abreast of best practices and trends relevant to Fiber/Network Construction and Design technologies.
• Recruit, develop and retain staff, partnering with Senior Management, Recruiting and Associate Resources. This includes on-boarding and orientation for new hires.
• Provide disciplined performance management for team.
• Define and communicate annual goals, perform formal and informal performance reviews, and ensure changes and updates are communicated in a timely and professional manner
• Create strong collaborative team environment that focuses on safety, business objectives and career development and progression for employees.
• Drive the development of consistent execution of operationally efficient and effective processes.
• Proactively identify and resolve personnel issues in conjunction with Associate Resources

What You Need For This Position:

• 15+ years of combined telecommunications construction and/or network operations experience, including management of multi-layered teams
• 10+ years of field force management preferred
• BS/BA Degree in applicable study supporting job requirements a plus.
• Technology experience implementing and improving systems and processes for management of construction operations.
• Experience managing large construction project P&L.

• Weekly travel necessary to meet demands of the position. The Vice President of OSP Construction will spend over 50% of their weekly time traveling to existing, proposed and new markets to meet the demands of the position
• Attendance in monthly meetings with representatives of the markets we are building
• Participation in negotiations with local representatives of government agencies, utility companies and partners in construction such as locating services, etc.
• Some level of additional work on nights and/or weekends to wrap up the prior week’s activities, review reports for Monday meetings and prepare for anticipated events in the immediate future.
• Preparing for and conducting meetings, presentations, and other organizational activities, including scheduled meetings that may at times be conducted on weekend hours.
• Exceptional strategic planning and leadership skills, with proven record of recommending and implementing process and efficiency improvements; demonstrated success in identifying and successfully executing strategic business opportunities.
• Excellent leadership skills; ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results; ability to influence and inspire action through strong decision-making skills.
• Demonstrate success in identifying and synthesizing internal and external customer needs into a concise, clear and influential presentation. Must be able to teach others how to do so as well.
• Ability to work effectively across many internal functional groups to optimize productivity, improve internal and external customer experiences and resolve issues.
• Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify high quality solutions.
• Demonstrate success in identifying talent and building individual and management capability; proven track record of building successful organizations.
• Exceptional strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key negotiations.
• Solid understanding and familiarity with telecommunications industry technologies, construction methodologies, FTTH architecture and materials/products.
• Demonstrate success in identifying talent and building individual and management capability. Proven track record of building successful organizations.
• Strong experience handling employee issues and making sound judgment decisions in this area.
