The Opportunity
Victim Advocates provide support to individuals involved in CAN’s reporting, investigation, and restorative accountability processes. Advocates may work with either reporters or creators, helping ensure that participants understand CAN’s processes, have access to appropriate resources, and have their needs and rights considered throughout the process.
This role requires empathy, discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to support people navigating sensitive and potentially difficult circumstances. Victim Advocates work as part of CAN’s broader program team and participate in ongoing training and team coordination.

- Participate in scheduled on-call coverage for CAN’s reporting hotline, with the ability to take calls in a quiet, private setting when needed.
- Will need a mobile phone and the ability to log into a shared VoIP account.
- Connect reporters with appropriate resources for healing and community support, including CAN resources and reputable external organizations.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of reporters and creators during investigations, mediations, and related interactions.
- Help reporters and creators understand CAN’s restorative justice process and support them during investigation interviews and/or mediation.
- Obtain and maintain required NACP certification through continuing education, with financial support from CAN.
- Attend biweekly Victim Advocate team meetings (approximately one hour) for case coordination, team discussion, and ongoing training.
- A weekly time commitment of ~4 hours.
