The Problem

Severe mental illness affects over 15 million adults in the United States. Schizophrenia. Schizoaffective disorder. Bipolar I. Treatment-resistant depression. These are the conditions the rest of healthcare has systematically failed to build for.

What makes this problem different from most of healthcare is that the tools to solve it do not exist. The clinical protocols, the measurement science, the precision medicine, the technology to deliver coordinated longitudinal outpatient care for this population. None of it has been built. This is a frontier problem, and it requires frontier science and care delivery to solve.

We are developing all of it. The care, the science, the technology.

Who We Are

Amae Health is a Series B, venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation that delivers specialty outpatient care for people living with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar I disorder, and treatment-resistant depression. We design and operate high-acuity, in-person clinics across the United States.

Our model integrates psychiatry, therapy, primary care, dietitians, and community health workers under one roof to deliver coordinated, longitudinal care for a population that has historically been fragmented across systems.

Leading health systems collaborate with Amae to bring this model to their communities, including NewYork-Presbyterian, Cedars-Sinai, Mass General Brigham, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit Health.

Why We Are Different

  • Integrated care, not a referral network. Psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, dietitians, and community health workers work side-by-side and share responsibility for the same patients.
  • Practice at the top of your license. Manageable caseloads, meaningful clinical depth, and purpose-built tools designed for this population.
  • Continuous learning. Through our collaboration with Mass General Brigham, clinicians receive ongoing training, supervision, and mentorship in evidence-based SMI care.
  • Advancing the field. Our clinicians contribute to new outcomes frameworks and research shaping the future of severe mental illness care.
  • A model built for sustainability. Team-based care, thoughtful caseloads, and strong infrastructure make this work meaningful—and sustainable over time.

The Team

We are clinicians, operators, technologists, and scientists who chose Amae because the problem is hard and the stakes are real. We are not interested in incremental improvements to a broken system—we are redefining it.

Our teams work cross-functionally because the work demands it. The psychiatrist informs the product roadmap. Engineers understand the clinical complexity their technology must solve. Researchers sit alongside the operators running the clinics on their work measures. Every function—finance, product, people, growth, technology—exists to serve one goal: better outcomes for the people we care for.

About the Role

The Virtual Clinical Care Coordinator is the connective tissue of Amae’s virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) cohorts. This fully remote role supports members as they feel welcome, show up, and stay engaged across each cohort, and keeps logistics running smoothly so clinicians can focus on care. You also support group sessions as an assistant facilitator, helping run skills practice, wellness, and engagement components under the direction of licensed clinicians.

Scope note: This role supports but does not replace licensed clinicians. It does not lead psychotherapy groups, conduct clinical assessments, or make clinical determinations.

What You'll Do

Program Operations

  • Coordinate with Amae’s growth & enrollment team to ensure intakes are scheduled, attended, and members are placed into the right cohorts
  • Schedule and confirm appointments; manage member phone, email, and secure-message communication.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and cohort records in our EHR and update member records as directed.
  • Support documentation workflows and outcomes-measure reminders
  • Help coordinate cohort start dates, backfilling open seats, and discharge logistics.

Member Engagement and Support

  • Welcome new members to their cohort, walk them through the virtual platform, and complete pre-session checks.
  • Reach out to members who miss sessions, identify barriers (scheduling, technology, motivation), and flag concerns to the care team.
  • Foster belonging and participation in virtual sessions, including encouraging camera-on engagement and positive peer connection.

Group Support (under clinician direction)

  • Assist licensed group facilitators with session logistics: opening the room, managing breakout rooms, tracking attendance, and monitoring chat.
  • Co-lead structured, non-therapy components such as check-ins, skills practice, wellness or social activities using approved materials.
  • Observe and escalate immediately any risk or safety concern to the clinician on duty per crisis protocol.

Care Team Collaboration

  • Participate in daily/weekly care team huddles; share observations on member engagement.
  • Connect members to community resources and supports that promote wellness, in coordination with therapists and the care team.
  • Contribute to projects that support program growth and member success.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, public health, nursing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1+ year of experience in a behavioral health, care coordination, community health, or member-facing support role (preferred).
  • Strong technology skills are essential. You should be able to use video platforms such as Google Meet with confidence, work comfortably in electronic health records, use secure messaging tools, and troubleshoot basic technical issues for members and staff
  • Strong organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; warm, steady presence with people experiencing depression and anxiety; ability to work one-on-one and in groups.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, member rights, and trauma-informed care.
  • Group facilitation experience (preferred)
  • Reliable home workspace with private, high-speed internet.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm PST. PST based candidates strongly preferred.

What We’re Building

Most healthcare companies ask you to optimize an existing system. We’re building one that has never existed.

  • Precision medicine for severe mental illness, using multimodal clinical, behavioral, and social data to personalize treatment.
  • A national care model designed for the highest-acuity patients in behavioral health, delivered primarily in person, with subset programs such as our virtual Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
  • A clinical operating system that integrates longitudinal data, real-time patient signals, and purpose-built tools into a single decision layer, supporting both in-person and virtual care.
  • New science and measurement frameworks to define what real outcomes look like in SMI: stability, functional improvement, and hospitalizations avoided.
  • A health-system partnership model proving coordinated SMI care can work at scale.

If you want to maintain the status quo, this isn’t the place. If you want to build what doesn’t exist yet, and change how an entire population receives care, keep reading.

Compensation & Benefits

Amae Health is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Base salary range for this role is $21.00 per hour. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage. Parental leave and programs built around well-being. We’ll share specifics during the interview process.

What We Value

  • We center care in all we do. Empathy is not a brand value. It’s how we make clinical decisions, build products, and treat each other.
  • We challenge convention. The existing system is the problem. We question it, we test alternatives, and we move with urgency when something works.
  • We take the work seriously, not ourselves. High standards and humanity are not in tension. We hold a hard bar for quality while leaving room for humor and levity.
  • Your job isn’t done until the job is done. We close gaps, we follow through, and we don’t hide behind titles or org charts.
  • We win together and fail together. We own outcomes as a team. We learn fast. We don’t do blame.
  • We hustle with humility. Speed matters. So does integrity. We assume best intent and stay grounded in the mission.
