BizFirst is assisting our client with recruiting a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Administrator to support Remote Access Services for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The team delivers virtual desktops and secure remote access, including Zscaler connectivity and external file sharing through ShareFile. The work includes security, performance monitoring, reporting, and support for reliable access to CDC systems.

Our client is an IT solutions and services company based in Alpharetta, Georgia, founded in 2000 to build mission-critical systems that run around the clock. Its cloud experts design and build cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, with work spanning cloud strategy and architecture, cloud modernization and engineering, security and compliance, cloud DevOps, and data and analytics. Federal civilian agencies are a core part of that work, supported through a GSA Multiple Award Schedule contract, and the company is an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner.

What will you do

Help maintain secure, reliable remote access for CDC users. You will support virtual desktop and extranet services, enforce authentication and endpoint security controls, investigate performance issues, remediate vulnerabilities, and contribute to upgrades that improve service resilience. The engineering team covers 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern on weekdays, with planned and emergency support outside those hours when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support virtual desktop and secure remote access services, including environments using Zscaler and ShareFile.
  • Implement and enforce multi-factor authentication using Microsoft MFA and smartcards, following FIPS 140-2 Level 3 standards or applicable government requirements.
  • Analyze network traffic and investigate performance issues to help maintain reliable, secure remote connectivity.
  • Support remote access architecture improvements, system upgrades, high-availability design, and operational resilience.
  • Install and maintain required security agents within the CDC remote access environment.
  • Audit systems to confirm that required security agents are installed, operational, and compliant with CDC security policies.
  • Review customer-reported vulnerabilities, prioritize remediation, and apply patches, configuration changes, or other protective measures.
  • Coordinate with CDC IT security teams, report remediation progress, and document security findings and corrective actions.
  • Support reporting, analytics, monitoring, and alerting across Remote Access Services.
  • Participate in planned maintenance and emergency support activities outside normal team coverage hours as needed.

Requirements:

  • 5-6 years of relevant experience administering virtual desktop infrastructure or enterprise remote access services.
  • Experience supporting secure remote access technologies and related access-control operations.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft multi-factor authentication, smartcard authentication, and applicable federal authentication standards.
  • Ability to analyze network traffic, diagnose performance issues, and support high-availability environments.
  • Experience installing, auditing, and troubleshooting security agents.
  • Experience prioritizing and remediating vulnerabilities through patching, configuration changes, and documented security processes.
  • Availability to support scheduled and emergency after-hours maintenance when needed.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting remote access services that use Zscaler and ShareFile.
  • Experience with security monitoring, reporting, and architecture modernization in a large government or enterprise environment.
