About the Role

Our client, a leading global technology company, is seeking skilled Speech Experts (SMEs) to support the evaluation and improvement of speech datasets, with a focus on speech aesthetics and audio quality.

The role requires exceptional listening and speech evaluation skills, particularly the ability to identify subtle differences in pitch, intonation, emotional expression, vocal intention, naturalness, and audio fidelity.

Candidates will contribute their expertise to speech annotation, quality assurance, and the development of evaluation guidelines to support AI-driven speech technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Speech Evaluation: Listen to and evaluate speech recordings, identifying subtle differences in tone, emotion, pronunciation, naturalness, intention, and audio quality.
• Quality Assurance: Review and assess speech annotations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established quality standards.
• Guideline Development: Develop, review, and refine speech annotation guidelines to support consistent evaluation.
• Data Annotation: Perform speech annotation tasks, write prompt responses, and assess output quality when required.
• Expert Advisory: Provide subject matter expertise in speech aesthetics and collaborate with other experts to improve dataset quality.
• Voice Recording: Record voice samples as required for assigned tasks.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in comparative audio evaluations and provide feedback to improve annotation processes and quality standards.

Requirements

1. Language Requirements

Strong proficiency in reading, writing and speaking one of the following languages is required, depending on the position:

• Simplified Chinese
• Tamil
• Bahasa Melayu

Each position will focus on reviewing, evaluating and managing speech and audio content in the designated language. Language proficiency is essential to accurately assess pronunciation, fluency, vocal expression, speech delivery and conversational nuances, ensuring the quality and accuracy of language-specific content.

2. Technical & Listening Requirements

• Own or have access to professional-grade audio equipment, including high-quality headphones.
• Exceptional listening skills, with the ability to identify subtle differences in speech and audio quality, targeting approximately 90% evaluation accuracy.
• Ability to distinguish between 24 kHz and 48 kHz audio recordings.
• Good understanding of audio fidelity and speech quality.

3. Relevant Experience & Domain Knowledge

• Relevant professional background in speech, linguistics, audio engineering, voice production or related fields.
• Strong understanding of vocal expression, pronunciation, emotional nuances, speech delivery and conversational dynamics.
• Familiarity with both the technical and qualitative aspects of speech and audio evaluation.

4. Communication & Analytical Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to identify patterns, evaluate annotation quality and provide constructive feedback.
• Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
• Adaptable and willing to learn new tools, technologies and evaluation processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in speech annotation, audio evaluation or data quality assurance.
• Experience developing annotation guidelines or reviewing annotated datasets.
• Familiarity with AI speech evaluation, voice technologies or related applications.
