Volunteer Expert Reviewer

About Us: Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit driven by a singular calling: to help the Church share the love of Christ by bringing justice for the least of these. This calling leads us to our mission: Driving the downfall of slavery by disrupting human trafficking in transit.

We are looking for faithful, compassionate, and mission-driven problem-solvers—people who think deeply about how to fight injustice and share Christ’s love in a broken world. This isn’t just a job; it’s a calling. If you’re searching for an easy, comfortable career, there are plenty of other options. But if you’re drawn to work that demands sacrifice, boldness, and faith, we invite you to apply and explore how you can be part of this mission.

Love Justice International has been recognized as a Best Christian Workplace for six consecutive years (2021–2026), most recently achieving the “Flourishing” category—the highest level of organizational health. Learn more about who we are, what sets us apart, and our open positions at lovejustice.ngo/careers.

What We Offer: Opportunities to truly change lives are exceptionally rare—but at LJI, that is exactly the kind of impact you can have. Although we’re a nonprofit, we operate as an “Impact Engineering” organization, focused solely on maximizing real-world outcomes. By combining scientific and business principles with field-led, locally informed insights, we intercept potential trafficking victims for under $112 each, creating a ripple effect that prevents several more individuals from enslavement. This remarkable efficiency underscores the profound, far-reaching impact your work can have on countless lives.

As a volunteer reviewer, you will apply your professional expertise directly to the tools our teams use every day. Your review goes to the staff member responsible for improving the tool and to the team that decides what to change. Reviews are remote, short-term, and scheduled around your availability.

Position Type: Volunteer (Unpaid); Remote; Short-term, per review

Each review covers one core process (described below), or a few closely related core processes within your area of expertise that give useful context for one another. You review materials the Lead sends you, then discuss them with the Lead on a video call. We ask reviewers to complete a review within about one month of receiving the materials. You can accept or decline each request, and you can take on additional reviews if your expertise covers other processes. If a review involves sensitive information, you will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving the materials.

Program and Position Overview: Love Justice International combats human trafficking through transit monitoring—intercepting potential victims at key transportation hubs, where traffickers and victims are most visible. Because trafficking is already underway at these points, our teams can gather vital information to assist law enforcement in arresting traffickers and disrupting trafficking networks. To date, LJI has intercepted over 117,000 individuals, resulting in more than 2,400 arrests. LJI also cares for orphaned and abandoned children and partners with The Dream School, an independently governed school in Nepal.

The tools behind this work are what we call core processes. A core process is any system or tool we use in our operations, such as a guidebook, a presentation, training materials, a spreadsheet, or software built by our team. LJI has developed more than 130 core processes. Some guide our internal operations, such as finance, human resources, communications, and fundraising. Others are installed with the programs and partners we support in the field, including anti-trafficking, child care, and education. Developing and continuously improving these processes is central to our core competency: “searching out the people, places, and tools to maximize mission impact.”

Each core process has a Lead, the staff member responsible for improving it, and a small team of staff stakeholders who decide what changes to make. Our goal for every core process is what we call Kingdom Class: more like what God intends for that tool or system than anything that currently exists. Reaching that goal requires knowing what world-class practice looks like in each field, and staff who work inside a process every day cannot see all of its weaknesses. For this reason, we ask each Lead to get a review from an outside expert at least once every three years and, when possible, when a new core process is being designed. Seeking candid outside feedback is one way we live out another of our values, Admit Your Weaknesses.

The Volunteer Expert Reviewer provides that outside view. Reviews are informal: the Lead shares the materials, hears your honest assessment on a video call, and brings your feedback to the stakeholders, who discuss it and decide what to change. Expert reviews are one part of a regular improvement audit, which also gathers feedback from the people who use each process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review the materials — Study the materials the Lead provides for each core process in your review.

• Discuss them with the Lead — Join a video call to discuss:

o Your suggestions for improving it

o Better tools or methods used in your field, and what distinguishes them

o Your overall rating, from 1 (needs major overhaul) to 5 (excellent: meets or exceeds best-in-class standards)

• Protect confidentiality — Use LJI materials only for the review, and sign a non-disclosure agreement if requested when a review involves sensitive information.

Areas of Expertise: We are looking for reviewers in the following areas:

  • Organizational development and leadership — organizational culture and values, management and leadership development, performance management, team collaboration, operations management, strategic planning, innovation, process improvement, and documentation
  • Human resources — recruitment, onboarding, training and development, employee engagement, international and expatriate HR, employment law, HR analytics, and volunteer engagement
  • Communication and cross-cultural work — internal and strategic communications, virtual collaboration across countries, cross-cultural training, and translation
  • Finance and accounting — nonprofit financial management, accounting and bookkeeping, auditing, and grant financial reporting
  • Governance, legal, and risk — nonprofit governance, contracts and partnership agreements, ethics and anti-corruption compliance, human rights, internal audit, risk management, and staff security
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and data — monitoring and evaluation, impact assessment, reporting, data collection and form design, data management and analysis, research, predictive analytics, data science, machine learning, and AI
  • Technology — software development, Agile and Scrum, user experience and interface design, quality assurance and testing, cybersecurity, and IT training
  • Fundraising and marketing — fundraising strategy, donor relations and donor trips, copywriting, design, storytelling, audience engagement and segmentation, and content analysis
  • Anti-human trafficking and international development — human trafficking and transit monitoring, anti-trafficking training, legal advocacy, program management, and international development
  • Child welfare — child protection, social work, child development, child psychology and counseling, pediatric health and nutrition, family-based care, and child welfare accreditation standards
  • Education — school leadership, curriculum development, instructional coaching, English language learning, special education, student assessment, school counseling, libraries, student activities, community outreach, and education technology
  • Faith and ministry — spiritual formation and direction, evangelism, missions leadership, church planting and church leadership, prayer ministry, and pastoral care and counseling
