New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Volunteers and Engagement Coordinator to join its Volunteer and Community Relations Department.
The Volunteers and Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Volunteer and Community Relations Department, helping ensure volunteer engagement, community partnerships, and resource management efforts run smoothly and efficiently. This role oversees volunteer onboarding, manages the organization and inventory of in-kind donations, and provides hands-on logistical support for agency events, seasonal drives, and volunteer initiatives. The Volunteers and Engagement Coordinator also supports partnership outreach, maintains departmental databases, and assists with partner engagement efforts to strengthen relationships with corporate and community partners while advancing volunteer recruitment and retention. Working closely with the Assistant Director and Senior Manager of Volunteer and Community Relations, this position helps deliver an exceptional experience for volunteers and partners while ensuring vital resources are efficiently distributed to the children and families served by the agency. 35 hours per week. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a hybrid schedule consisting of four in-office days and one remote workday per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support major agency events, volunteer initiatives, and seasonal drives.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the administrative onboarding and Human Resources process for volunteer placements.
- Expand and maintain the "Volunteer Network" database to ensure information is updated for new and past volunteers.
- Regularly update the volunteer community regarding upcoming opportunities and agency activities.
- Support the physical sorting, inventorying, and organization of all in-kind items received by the department.
- Partner with the agency's Resource department and Family Support Department to ensure available items meet current client needs. Engage with external platforms, such as One Simple Wish, to facilitate and grant special requests for NAC youth.
- Provide hands-on operational support for departmental programming and events connected with corporate partners and volunteers.
- Support in the execution of large-scale agency events, including the NAC Carnival and Olympics, and various seasonal drives and events.
- Assist in the development of partnership "Wish Lists" and the coordination of the annual Holiday Gift Drive.
- Provide content for social media and update promotional materials in coordination with the Development department.
- Help monitor and respond to general inquiries from prospective volunteers in a timely manner.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to interact professionally with volunteers, donors, community partners, and agency staff.
Preferred Education and Experience
- One to three years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, nonprofit operations, event planning, or administrative support.
- Experience maintaining databases or volunteer management systems.
- Experience coordinating volunteers, in-kind donations, or community events in a nonprofit setting.
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
