Experience: 15+ years in telecommunications, service-provider infrastructure, network and systems architecture, cloud and edge infrastructure, technology strategy, consulting, professional services, or related leadership roles, including significant customer-facing and executive advisory experience.
Proposed Years of Experience: 15+ years
Job Summary:
The VP, IMNI Field CTO defines GDT’s technical vision, architecture, and market strategy for carrier-grade infrastructure—hardware, software, networks, cloud, edge, compute, storage, and operational systems engineered for exceptional reliability, availability, scalability, performance, and service-level outcomes.
This senior customer-facing executive advises telecommunications and service-provider leaders, leads strategic pursuits and transformation programs, influences GDT’s portfolio and partner ecosystem, and connects architecture and engineering decisions to measurable outcomes such as resiliency, capacity, latency, throughput, operational efficiency, time to restore, and total cost of ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Define GDT’s carrier-grade infrastructure strategy, reference architecture, standards, investment priorities, and multi-year roadmap across networking, telecom cloud, data center, edge, compute, storage, automation, observability, and operations.
• Serve as a trusted advisor and executive sponsor to CTOs, CIOs, network executives, engineering leaders, boards, and senior stakeholders at telecommunications, service-provider, enterprise, government, and other strategic accounts.
• Lead assessments and define target-state architectures, migration roadmaps, governance, testing, acceptance criteria, and operational-transition plans for complex network and infrastructure environments.
• Provide technical leadership across IP/MPLS, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, EVPN/VXLAN, segment routing, SDN/SD-WAN, secure WAN, traffic engineering, network automation, service orchestration, observability, and service assurance.
• Advise on 4G/5G core, RAN, private wireless, NFV/CNF, Kubernetes, OpenStack, bare-metal infrastructure, public and private cloud, distributed compute, edge platforms, and high-performance storage where applicable.
• Establish requirements for high availability, fault isolation, geographic redundancy, capacity, performance, disaster recovery, business continuity, security-by-design, DDoS protection, and measurable service-level outcomes.
• Own the technical aspects of strategic pursuits, including discovery, solution design, bills of materials, statements of work, implementation plans, pricing inputs, RFP responses, demonstrations, ROI/TCO narratives, and executive proposals.
• Translate technical recommendations into customer outcomes and qualify opportunities based on business value, technical fit, funding, delivery readiness, operational impact, and potential for advisory, professional, lifecycle, and managed services.
• Lead executive briefings, architecture reviews, workshops, proofs of concept, customer advisory sessions, partner engagements, analyst briefings, conferences, and other field and market-facing activities.
• Represent customer and service-provider requirements to GDT Architecture, Engineering, Product, Marketing, Sales, Implementation, and Managed Services teams; influence roadmaps, offerings, packaging, enablement, and go-to-market strategy.
• Build strategic relationships with networking, telecom, cloud, automation, observability, and systems partners; guide architects and engineers; and promote consistent, repeatable delivery practices.
• Lead major technical escalations and architecture decisions, evaluate emerging technologies and standards, and monitor measures such as availability, resiliency, performance, customer outcomes, service adoption, and financial contribution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Deep expertise in telecommunications, service-provider, carrier-grade, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments spanning network, systems, cloud, edge, data center, and operations architecture.
• Advanced knowledge of IP routing and transport, including BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS, EVPN/VXLAN, segment routing, SRv6, SDN, SD-WAN, QoS, traffic engineering, and network automation.
• Practical understanding of 4G/5G, telecom cloud, NFV/CNF, Kubernetes, OpenStack, edge computing, distributed systems, bare-metal platforms, and high-performance storage.
• Strong understanding of high availability, resiliency, capacity and performance engineering, observability, telemetry, service assurance, automation, incident management, and disaster recovery.
• Working knowledge of secure-by-design infrastructure, identity, segmentation, DDoS protection, vulnerability management, supply-chain risk, compliance, and operational security.
• Ability to translate business, financial, network, and technical strategies into scalable, measurable, defensible solutions and clear executive decisions.
• Strong commercial and consulting acumen, with exceptional executive communication, presentation, negotiation, facilitation, technical storytelling, and customer relationship skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, manage ambiguity, coach technical teams, and collaborate across sales, architecture, engineering, implementation, managed services, and partner organizations.
• Experience with multi-vendor ecosystems; exposure to Cisco, Nokia, Juniper, HPE, Arista, Dell, VMware, Red Hat, cloud providers, and Kubernetes is preferred.
• Familiarity with IETF, IEEE, 3GPP, ETSI, MEF, TM Forum, ITU-T, and relevant open-source communities; established industry presence is a plus.
Certifications:
• Relevant certifications preferred, including CCIE/CCDE, CCNP Service Provider, JNCIE/JNCIP, Nokia Service Routing, HPE Aruba or Juniper, cloud architecture, Kubernetes, OpenStack, TOGAF, SABSA, ITIL, PMP, or equivalent certifications.
